Friends, the slog has finally come to an end!
I, like many other Knitters, cast on for the MDK annual Bang-Out-a-Sweater event . . . last February. The thought behind that annual knit-a-long is that . . . together, with the support of your knitting friends, you will be encouraged to spend the dark and cold month of February knitting – and (allegedly) finishing – a brand new sweater. While many Knitters actually finished their Bang-Out-a-Sweater sweater in that timeframe, I certainly did not. Nor did I plan to from the get-go! (After all, I’ve previously knit the Pressed Flowers Cardigan – which features a similar cool-but-very-slow mosaic stitch – so I knew better than to expect a quick, slog-free finish.)
Anyway. I’ve wanted to knit the Waffle Pullover (Ravelry link) since the pattern was first introduced in MDK’s Field Guide #29 (because I just love the look of it), so I decided to jump into the pool (so to speak) with all the other “swimmers” last February. And it got really tedious really quickly . . . but I know that the only way out is through, and I kept knitting. Until spring, that is, when the pullover was still unfinished but just too hot to handle in the heat of the summer. Once I pulled it out and just got back to it this fall, it really didn’t take me long to finish — although it did need a concerted effort on my part because aforementioned slog and general lack of enthusiasm at the end.
But . . . I’m really happy, now that it’s Finally Finished! (And my facial expression here truly reflects my overall enthusiasm for the the finish phase of the project.) Seriously, though, I love the finished pullover, and I know I’ll get much wear out of it as the weather gets cooler. It’s a woolly, squishy, sweatshirt-y kind of sweater . . . which is exactly what I was going for when I cast on last February.
I’m putting together a Field Notes post with details and lots more photos, but that won’t be ready until later today (because eldercare waits for no one . . . even if that no one is nursing a slowly healing sprained ankle herself . . . so I must deal with some dad-care this morning). I’ll add the link here when I finish my Field Note, though.
In the meantime, please let me know what you’re working on this week!

Your in time to be able to wear all through the coldest of weather! The style and color looks so great on you. I hope all goes well with your father. It’s not easy taking care of our aging parents. I’m past that stage and now in need of my own elder care, which, so far, I can handle. LOL
Perfect timing for a lovely sweater! I’m glad that the tedium is over and you’ve got a sweatshirty kind of sweater that you can actually wear now. I hope you and your dad manage things okay today.
I love it! Just my kind of everyday, well loved winter sweater. I looks great, and I am glad you got it finished. It is still in the 90’s down here, yes, the 90’s. I hope it gets cool enough for me to wear something like this over the coming months. Congratulations on making it through the slog, it’s tedious, but the FO was certainly worth it.
It’s a great sweater! Perfect fall colors (well, I’d wear them whenever you want, but. . . ) May you have a good stretch of sweater without a coat weather to enjoy it in. And good luck with your dad today – hope all goes well.
What a great sweater for this time of the year. Your atumnal colors look hand-picked for your photo session. May you have a long fall season to enjoy your lovely creation!
