I’m mixing things up here in the Making Department these days . . . and having some seasonal crafting fun while doing said mixing.
I’m embroidering a little piece of Christmas fun from Dropcloth Samplers. This one (the Mistletoe Sampler) is a limited edition “vintage” design, originally sold in 2011 – and brought back for a “return engagement.”
I love all of Rebecca’s samplers! Each is like . . . a coloring book for stitchers! The sampler designs are whimsical and fun — and (best of all) they have no directions or stitch guides or suggested colors to follow. It’s just like . . . grabbing a coloring book and your crayons . . . and doing whatever you feel like! (If that makes you nervous, there are samples you can follow. But I really like the just-go-for-it nature of Rebecca’s pieces.)
My mistletoe sampler is 10″ x 10″ square. It’s big enough to hold comfortably while I’m stitching, but small enough that the project moves along quickly. When I finish, I’m planning to use the sampler in some sort of patchwork-y throw pillow. I think. (Any other ideas?)
Anyway. That’s what I’m doing these days . . . getting into the holiday spirit with a bit of embroidery.

Also… have you seen the snowflakes on Dropcloth’s website? Oh my… they are adorable!
Adorable! I think it’ll make a very sweet little pillow. I always enjoy seeing other people’s Dropcloth samplers, but I think I’d be overwhelmed by the choices.
This is definitely coloring book embroidery, with all the fun of coloring! I looked at Dropcloth and quite like them, but I don’t think I have much motivation/stamina for a larger embroidery piece. (Maybe a pincushion is more my size!)
That’s an adorable embroidery project! I have plenty of Christmas fabric scraps if you’d like some for your throw pillow. I think a log cabin type design with the embroidery square as the center would be perfect.

What a darling little piece of embroidery. A little throw pillow would be lovely. I’ve seen the Drop Cloth Samplers made into little project bags too.
Oh this embroidery is delightful! A throw pillow seems exactly the right thing for this sampler! it is highly visible (as any handmade item should be), utterly charming and can nestle easily into your decor. Yes, a pillow. (With maybe table runners or photo album covers if there are enough pillows). Myself, I am doing some yarn doodling…marling various colors and fibers to see what they might become. So far, predictably, KSH seems to be the Secret Sauce, but there is lots (perhaps too much!) to choose from. Chloe
