Weave . . . is turning out to be one of my favorite-ever One Little Words. It’s quiet, contemplative, powerful. It just kind of hovers there, always in the background. It’s a real connect-the-dots kind of word. And I love it!
This month, I came across this little “blip” from Elizabeth Gilbert on Instagram, and although it isn’t directly about weaving, and she never mentions the word “weave” as she talks . . . I think she’s definitely talking about weaving the landscape of your life. About how that blend of stuff . . . the things-that-work and things-that don’t, the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly, the all-of-it . . . comes together for us to make of it what we will.
For me, weave . . . is about making peace with that “big, huge auditorium of a landscape inside.”
And making it mine. All mine. (Even the rough bits.)
“Every weaving is as unique as the weaver who makes it. The goddess does not want us to imitate some ideal of perfection, but to be our true selves.”— Deborah Harkness
Yes, yes, yes! I really love those words that are just always there… they are absolutely the most impactful! And I love the idea of inner space, so thank you for sharing the Elizabeth Gilbert thoughts! I am remembering back in the early days of your word thinking what a journey this word could bring one on… tucking in all those loose ends… making them part of the fabric of one’s life. Scary and Awesome all at the same time! I am so glad you are finding this word to be so fulfilling! XO
I like that Deborah Harkness quote, especially the first part. If only we could all get better at recognizing and celebrating the uniqueness of the weaver and the weaving.
Weave certainly seems to be the perfect word for you. I am not a big fan of Gilbert, but I did really like the clip you shared, so thank you!
I am so so glad that this word has become such a great experience for you. I appreciate the things you’ve shared about it, too.
I love that Deborah Harkness quote (love her books, hate the series made from the books).
a beautiful reflection, Kym! and I’m loving the “related posts” (and anticipating another … 7 photos!) as a tiny capture of your journey with the word!
The Deborah Harkness quote is right on isn’t it. Recognizing and accepting the good and the not so good and weaving it together sounds like an excellent idea. Weave is such an interesting word. I’m glad you found it.
Yes I think you really picked a good one. Love the Elizabeth Gilbert video.
I really enjoyed the message of the video, and it really speaks to what I’m trying to do with my “self work” as I get older — accept that I contain contradictions and make space for them all. I’m so glad to hear that this has been a great word for you.
As I was listening to her speak I tried to decide if I have room for all the parts of me. Not sure, but definitely worth thinking about. Thanks!
