Whaaattt????
Is that . . . actual knitting . . . outside? In February? With JoJo happily taking up her posing duties again????
Yes. That’s exactly what it is! We’re enjoying an honest-to-goodness heat wave here in Michigan . . . with temperatures hovering in the upper 40-degree (F) range. The snow is melting fast, the ground is a soggy-boggy mess, and I saw a guy in shorts shopping at the grocery store yesterday. It feels like Spring . . . at least for a couple of days.
Time to get the knitting out for photos in actual, natural light! It’s time for true colors once again!
And . . . yeah. It’s another one, I’m afraid. I finished Sophie Scarf #3 over the weekend.
For this version, I tried using a variegated yarn to see what would happen . . . and I’m pleased with the results. This particular yarn (it’s Pashm from Ewetopia in the colorway Tapestry) has really short color runs, which is perfectly suited to the very short rows of a Sophie Scarf. Longer variegated color runs would result in a more stripe-y look, I’m sure.
It’s been really hard to photograph this really lovely yarn in the house under artificial light, so I was happy to be able to take it outside for some natural light photography. The colors in my photos are very true to what this scarf looks like in real life. (You can see more photos here, in my Field Notes.) (Scroll down; all my Sophie Scarves are together in one Field Note post.)
In fact, the light was so good I ran outside with a couple of other projects to photograph them in the natural light, too. Here’s my Waffle Pullover — and you can finally see what these colors actually look like. (And as an aside . . . I’m really loving knitting this pullover! It’s chugging right along – although I did take a bit of a break to finish the Sophie Scarf – and I’ll be ready to divide for the sleeves yet this week. I’ll give you a better update next week.) And . . . here’s the yarn for my next Sophie Scarf (can’t stop won’t stop). This one (#4) will be for my sister, who is right up there in the Most Knit-worthy People In My Life category.

Everything looks so much better – so much true-er – in natural light!
==========
How about YOU? What are you working on this week?

This latest Sophie scarf is even prettier than I imagined from the indoor photos, and I bet #4 will be lovely also. It’s so nice to see your waffle pullover showing its true colors. Good job, JoJo!
Hooray for your weather! I bet your mood is much better with all this wonderful, natural light. I love all these knits so much, Kym. The colors are right down my alley. One of my favorite combos is olive green and burgundy. Sending good vibes for continued light and lovely knitting. And I am glad to see JoJo once again on the job.
I just took a walk in 60 degree sunshine, but it’s just a tease, winter will return by the weekend! Your knits are lovely!
I’m so glad you Michiganders have gotten a little thaw! We’re supposed to get snow again this weekend, but it’s been so nice to leave the house without all the winter layers and to hear water running as everything melts. And yes, light outside is always better! Love seeing all those vibrant colors!
Wait. You can see GRASS in your yard and I CAN’T? What weird twist of winter fate is this?? LOL Anyway, I love your newest Sophie Scarf and that photo of you is wonderful. (Truth be told, it makes me miss you a lot.) Natural light is the best for capturing the true color of our projects and I’m glad you got to enjoy some.
Yes, the photos in natural light are so much better. And this evening it was nearly light until 6:00 p.m. The sweater looks great. Enjoy the heat wave!
What a pretty Waffle and a pretty dog. Your Sophie Scarf turned out grand Kym. And what a gorgeous color to knit one for your sister.
Woohoo to the great thaw!! (although, I really wish we could skip the soggy, boggy phase… sigh) I like your latest Sophie Scarf! That variegated yarn worked perfectly! I love the little blips of color! And your sweater is looking gorgeous! (sigh… that lovely angled increase line… sigh. I am hopeful that my second attempt will create an increase line that looks like that versus what I had!) The yarn for the most-knit-worthy-of-sisters is gorgeous! What a rich color… excellent dying there!
