Garden season . . . is winding down. At least it is here in my garden. By late September, I’m usually weary of gardening chores, and ready to let things just . . . come to a close. Naturally and without fanfare. But I’m still out there, poking around every day. I’ve still got hummingbirds moving through, so I need to keep my black-and-blue salvia deadheaded and blooming. I’m still getting tomatoes, although they’re not as . . . pretty. I’ve got plenty of blooms for the bees and the last of the butterflies. I’ve just . . . given up on the weeds. And I’m not stressing over the things that didn’t really work out for me this year. (Herb garden? I’m looking at you!)
I’ve also found a few garden surprises here at the end of the season . . .
A few random sunflowers under my birdfeeders. Volunteer coleus popping up among my rosemary plants. Last year’s cherry tomato plants re-seeded themselves and are now weaving themselves through my chives. And volunteer verbena are showing up here, there, and everywhere in a pleasant kind of way.

Some things just want to grow, y’know?
I love surprises in my garden . . . and especially when they’re blooming surprises in a winding-down time of year!

And just FYI . . . I’m taking a blogging vacation for the rest of the week. We have some very special guests coming for a visit, and I want to be able to spend all my time with them. I’ll be back next Tuesday.
Enjoy your week!

Have a nice break and a delightful visit with your special guests! XO
My grand garden plans fell to the wayside this year so I love the little surprises that remind me of the little bits of joy that spring up even when I am not paying attention. Enjoy your special company.
I’ve ignored the weeds, too, and it feels good. Enjoy your guests!
Have a wonderful time with your special guests!
