I recently took a bit of a knitting detour.
It wasn’t far out of my way or inconvenient at all.
In fact, it was a fun little diversion!
I’m one of the test knitters for designer Elizabeth Smith’s newest pattern . . . Icebreaker. (The design will be released later in October; this is not a “secret” test knit, so I have permission to write about it.)
This great layering piece was a really quick, really enjoyable knit. Chunky weight yarn. Big needles. No sleeves. It just flew off the needles!
It’s really perfect for chilly fall days.
And there have been enough of those lately, so it’s already getting good wear.
If you’d like to see the details — and a few more photos, be sure check out my project Field Notes.

How about you? What are you making this week?
So cute, Kym! I love the yarn you used! I like all those flecks of color. That is the perfect layering piece that I just might need to add to my wardrobe! (it would be perfect over the Studio Tunic!)
That is a great pattern, you knit it in a great yarn, and it looks wonderful on you! (I can see how you would be drawn to this; if you keep your core warm you can still wear flip-flops!)
That looks incredibly cozy and perfect for this time of year when you just need a little something to keep your core toasty!
Fell in love with this IMMEDIATELY. Am standing in line to buy the pattern right now. The v-neck alone got my attention. Not to mention the versatility. And I think this style looks good on everyone. Thanks! Chloe
Perfect timing to finish a project like that!! It’s wonderful… looking forward to the pattern release.
That looks like a perfect transitional piece.
What a fun and lovely piece Kym. Love the yarn/color you chose and this pattern really appeals to me. And FAST? That’s always good!!
Love the look on you! And the colorway!
Back to the Kiki Mariko hearth rug for the still in progress mountain home while hiding the Christmas sweaters because our daughter is here… 😉
That is a great sweater for layering and I know your style is all about layers! You look so good with your long hair, it’s absolutely gorgeous!
That’s a cute sweater, great for layering.
You are rocking that sweater/vest. It’s perfect for you.
