My knitting continues apace. While fun and relaxing to do, it does not make for a terribly exciting blog post (all that stockinette-in-the-round for inches and inches kind of thing, y’know?) So, here. Allow me to catch you up on a different project for today.
I’m finally nearing the finish on this sweet little Alice Makabe embroidery piece I showed you a few weeks ago. I just need to decide which color to make the last few French knot “blossoms” on the smaller trees (I’m thinking the blue), and then it’ll be finished. I messed with the colors Alice suggested for the trees, which is why I’ve had a little indecision here at the end. I really didn’t want to use the brown floss that came with the kit for my piece. Although I love the palette of floss Alice used, I didn’t like the brown for the trees against the black background. So I went my own way, and I’m generally pleased. And I love the way the reverse side looks! (I’m always weird that way.)

(Although I will avoid tiny designs with tiny stitches on black linen in the future. It’s just too hard on my eyes.)
(Also . . . yeah. That’s a lot of dog hair there. JoJo is in max-shed at the moment. Dog hair is everywhere.)
How about YOU? What are you making this week?

That is a sweet embroidery piece, even with some dog hair! I think blue will look just lovely for the french knots, and your back is so neat. My grandmother always said the back of a piece was a good indication of the skill of the embroiderer, so there you go! (I don’t dare show you the back of my hat; it’s kind of a mess.)
Ahhh the joy of being in the Max Shed Zone! The Best! Ha! (and I simply love your embroidery piece… and I agree, the brown trees would not have been as outstanding!)
You are a busy, crafty gal, Kym! I love your sweet embroidery piece, and yes, always go your own way. As I told Bonny, I am trying desperately to get the house renovation finished for my stepson, I have two yards that are in real need of shrub work, and I am trying to get Wink into a routine. So, I am busy doing a lot of necessary, satisfying things that are not always fun at the moment. Life!
Forgive me if I comment twice, but my first comment seemed to disappear. I am busy doing a lot of necessary, but not necessarily fun things at the moment. You know, life! I am trying to get the renovations finished for my stepson’s house, doing yardwork in two yards, and getting dear little Wink into a routine. So, very busy, but no crafting or much reading. I love your sweet embroidery piece, Kym. Yes, always go your own way and please yourself!
Love it, and your own spin on it! I bought that book when you posted about it before & gave it to Ali for her birthday! We’re in max shed over here, too.
Max Shed – hahaha…thankfully Mabel does not shed that much (or, perhaps, I just don’t notice it??). Your embroidery piece is lovely Kym. You have a way with color. I still remember that tote bag you embroidered the other year…and then I bought it…and it is still sitting here waiting for me to pick it up! Maybe once I finish the Appil piece??
Wow I love this embroidery piece so much! Last summer I got on an embroidery jag, mostly modifying t-shirts and embroidering on them. That would make a good blog post! Maybe I’ll remember to do that. (I hear you about the dog hair, it’s everywhere here).
I think your trees are a perfect shade! I remember the days of shedding season, I wondered how Dixie wasn’t completely bald there was so much fur everywhere. Fred & George don’t shed much at all. What we’re dealing with here is pine pollen season and there’s yellow powder everywhere.
Ruthie is also blowing her coat a bit, so I totally understand the dog hair everywhere — it’s gotten to the point where I don’t even notice it anymore! I love your embroidery piece and I agree with the color change-up. It would have been hard to see brown on black, both to stitch it and to view it when it was done.
I love that embroidery on black. I saw an appliqués with embroidery piece done on a plaid line which also caught my eye. Down the rabbit hole I go!
The little trees are so cute no matter which side you see.
We are in max-shed as well. But, Giroux enjoys being brushed so much that I really don’t mind.
What a sweet distraction. I have a hard time resisting a bouquet of DMC embroidery floss. And I love the “back story” of any piece.
