I knit a hat last week. Y’know . . . just sitting there, elevating my ankle . . .
(It’s this pattern in this yarn. Which I really like. And I will update my Field Notes. Eventually. But for now I’m engaged in a highly compartmentalized lifestyle phase and can’t quite make that a priority at the moment. Or it will throw off the incredibly intricate balance I am barely hanging onto by a thread.) (Just sayin.)
It is, alas, too big for me. So I had Tom try it on.

Who wore it better?
Tom wins this round.
(So it’s his hat now.)

I like the hat very much. Unless Tom needs a hat, I would be tempted to wash it and pop it in the dryer for 5 minutes to see if it would shrink just a bit. I have done that on some things I knit that were just a bit too big. I think it looks fabulous with your hair color. I hope your need for compartmentalization and balance gets less demanding soon, Kym.
I agree with Becky. It fits Tom better, but looks good on you. But hats are like that, often in search of the head to fit them.
I’m afraid it *is* Tom’s hat. But he could never rock that Elizabeth Smith sweater like you do 😉
I hope the time scales tip in your favor soon, Kym. The great thing about hats is that they’ll fit SOMEONE… you just have to find them.
Very handsome! (But I think you looked cute in it too!)
Well that’s a bummer! I think it looks cute on you, but if it’s too big to the point of falling off, then it doesn’t really matter. I guess you’ll just have to knit another one for yourself!
Well if facial expression elevates a hat, you win. Even though it is probably Tom’s hat (and long may he wear it) your expression made it memorable. (I say that because when I was young I could wear most hats but middle age turned the tables on me (on Me, not necessarily You) and I am finding myself spending a lot of time twisting either the hat or my facial features into various positions to make a hat work. But You look like you had no trouble with that!)
Isn’t it interesting that hats really do have to fit – just as a sweater needs to fit? And I think we all have our personal preferences. Whoever gets to wear that hat, will have a lovely hand knit. The colors work for both of you and that was a smart choice.
