I love the whole vibe of summer . . . the loosening of schedules, the freedom to kick back, the long hours of daylight. (The heat? Not so much. But you can’t have everything . . . ) But. Seasons change, y’know? As I try to get my head around . . . well . . . tomorrow being September, I’m preparing to say goodbye to summer things I’ve enjoyed.
Like the Read With Us LOUNGE.
I hope you’ve had as much fun hanging out in the LOUNGE this summer as we did. It’s been fun . . . reading with you and talking books together this summer. No rules. Just fun.
Before we shut everything down, we’d love to hear your thoughts. I hope you’ll take a moment to leave a comment with your impressions of the LOUNGE. Did you like our summer reading series? What else might you have liked to talk about? Would you join us again next summer? And (naturally) . . . what was your favorite book this summer?
Thanks so much for being with us here in the LOUNGE . . . a place where we celebrate the FUN of reading, with NO RULES whatsoever!
(Psst . . . This is your LAST CHANCE to let us know you want a sticker! We’ll be mailing them out on Friday this week, and when they’re gone . . . they’re gone!)

I loved the lounge! As I said to Bonny, I just wish it was an IN PERSON lounge instead of a virtual one. We probably wouldn’t have read as many books, though.
I loved everything about the Lounge! They were some of my favorite posts to write, and based on comments, they were some of our readers’ favorite posts to read. This was a great idea, Kym! Now if only we could do something about making it in-person next summer …
It was a lovely thing this summer… and a thing that made Monday’s a high point of the week! I found the post you all shared so thought-provoking! And I loved checking back in to read everyone else’s thoughts! It might have been fun to have a check in… a morning coffee and conversation zoom? or an afternoon with the beverage of your choice gathering? Thank you all for all the work that went into these posts!
(and my favorite reads of the summer… well, Whistler and John of John… I loved them both so much!)
I really enjoyed the reading lounge. It was refreshing to hear about other people’s approaches to their reading and all the information that was exchanged about books as well as platforms for reading and new books. It was a great idea. I think you should do it again. The only thing that might make it better is if there was some way to have it be a drop-in kind of thing over coffee or lunch? Even though I don’t get excited about book clubs, I love to hear about what various people are reading and “chew the fat” about books in general. Thank for doing this!
Whistler!
First, thanks to you, Bonny and Carole for hosting this FUN Lounge. I’ve looked forward to your Monday posts and like others, enjoyed circling back to read comments from others. I would definitely participate again and (like others) wish there were a way to do it in person (but I’m betting not much reading would be done). My favorite book for the summer? Definitely Land by Maggie O’Farrell.
I enjoyed the reading Lounge this summer. I just love book talk, everything from what people are reading to how they read and think about books. Thank you so much for this summer time treat!
If I had to choose just one favorite book of the summer, it would be Land.
I liked reading about everyone else’s ideas of what the lounge meant to them. Meeting over coffee for a chat sounds like a fun idea (maybe not for the person who is actually trying to make it work logistically). I also loved John of John and Land. Anything Irish usually has my attention and there were a few little gems, as well as Maggie’s great story. Thank you for this wonderful way of having everyone share their reading insights and favorites. It’s a nice way to promote a hobby we all love and one that goes hand in hand with knitting (and a good life!).
I’ve enjoyed the Lounge this summer – thanks!
Oh, and my favorite book of the summer? — definitely Whistler
Though my commenting was limited and it was often mid-week before I caught up…I thoroughly enjoyed the lounge! Thank you to all of you for all of this effort! I’d love a sticker and am holding my favorite book of the summer choice until next week. Whistler holds top spot currently…should finish Land soon. 🙂
I really enjoyed all the lounge posts this summer. They were a great way to think about books and reading without having to focus on a specific book and without any pressure to do some sort of reading challenge. I hope you bring it back next summer!
It’s been fun reading your thoughts in the Monday reading lounge. I’ve come to realize that I don’t have many reading rules. And as I’ve gotten older I don’t have a problem DNF’ing a book that I’m not interested in.
It’s been such a great summer for reading with some of my favorite authors releasing new books. This fall looks equally exciting as Emily St. John Mandel and Chloe Benjamin have new books coming out in Sept. And Barbara Kingsolver’s new book in October.
So happy reading to all of us as we move into autumn
I enjoyed the lounge. It was nice to read it every Monday after work. All the posts gave me something to think about.
