Well. That was quick.
On . . . and off . . . the needles in just a few days. Easy knit. There’s still plenty of cool weather (and plenty to rebel against) to knit one for yourself — or for someone you love. You can purchase the Melt the Ice Hat pattern here. According to the pattern designer, “all proceeds from the sale of this pattern go to the immigrant aid agencies who will distribute the funds to those impacted by the actions of ICE.” (So it’s for a good cause — even if you just buy the pattern with no intention of knitting the hat.)
If you’re not yet familiar with the story behind the hat, Joyce Vance (former US attorney, legal analyst, author, podcast host, and Knitter) has written a great history and promotional piece about the red knit hats here. (An inspiring article worth your time.)
Fun to make. Fun to wear. Perfect for the upcoming No Kings marches (March 28 EVERYWHERE. Find one near you and mark you calendars now!)

How about you? What are you making these days?

I thought the story behind this hat was fascinating when I first read it. I immediately bought the pattern, but have not knit it. I think it is an interesting hat, I really like it. And it looks great on Tom!
Lovely, Kym! And a brilliant idea to wear it to the next rally! It’s hard to believe we are almost halfway through this month… gah! (perhaps it will slow down a bit with our forecast of snow tomorrow… sigh)
I hope to see lots of red hats on March 28th. I still haven’t seen one in the wild, but I know they’re out there. I read yesterday that the pattern has made more than $600,000 for immigrant aid!
As soon as I saw the story I bought it, cast on and it has been done for weeks…I’m putting that darn tassel on this morning and shipping it to my s-i-l!
Wow! That was fast. My knitting mojo has been sidelined a bit but I am spending a significant amount of time looking for a new sweater pattern.
The looks cozy and warm and the bonus is it means something.
A knit worthy cause AND a knit worthy recipient. We have a conflict on 3/28 and won’t be able to participate this time. I’m disappointed but it can’t be helped, unfortunately.
I thought I could probably figure out the hat from the photos but bought the pattern anyway because it’s for such a good cause. I just hope it’s not too warm to wear it on the 28th, as I’d really like to go to a protest!
I won’t be knitting a hat, but I definitely bought a pattern! Tom looks great!! We’re hoping to make it to a local protest.
