I don’t think there’s a better baby welcoming gift . . . than a tiny, adorable, hand knit baby sweater!
Fourteen years ago (and I cannot believe it was fourteen years ago already! ), the first of Tom’s brother’s sons had a baby. So I knit that new baby (my grandnephew-in-law. . . ) a baby sweater. And then there was a grandniece-in-law. And then another grandnephew-in-law. And another niece. And another. They just kept coming! And I just kept knitting those tiny, welcoming gifts! (In Tom’s family, I became The Aunt Who Knits The Sweaters.)
I knit the first two sweaters using the same pattern, but after that . . . I decided to branch out and have some fun with it. I’ve knit each baby a unique sweater.
Let’s fast forward to . . . now. (Well. . . to last month.) I knit my ninth family baby sweater to welcome the newest of the grandniece-in-laws — and sent it off just in time!
Done.
Dusted.

As usual, I wrote up the relevant project details in my Field Notes, and I included a lot more photos there, too. Click on over if you’re interested in seeing/learing more about the sweater.
How about you?
What are you working on these days?
That sweater looks wonderful and is a fine welcome for a baby! You are good to be the aunt who (keeps) knitting sweaters. My niece has five children (and counting) but I only managed to knit for the first two. It seems that I am a selfish knitter, but after two pairs of socks for me, I’m knitting some for Jess.
This sweater is just precious, Kym! I bet your are known as the aunt who gives the best baby gifts. These are the gifts that generally become the heirlooms. Basically, I am just working on not losing my mind these days.
It is good to be The Aunt That Knits Sweaters! What a lovely way to welcome a new life into the family! That sweater is just adorable and will be the perfect thing for a cute baby! 🙂 (and babies are such a great distraction from Life These Days… sigh.)
What a sweet sweater and I love the care tag 🥰
That might be the cutest and best baby sweater I’ve ever seen!
I’m on the brink of being a sweater knitting aunt — though recently it’s been little soft toys for new little ones. Yarn is bought, mom and dad have chosen the pattern.
This is a great sweater! So happy. Congratulations!
Aw. Super cute, Kym!!
This is a wonderful tradition and the perfect way to welcome a new baby to the family. That sweater is terrific, I love how you mixed up the colors, well done!
It’s the cutest baby sweater ever. I hope the parents will let you share the cute baby wearing the cute sweater!
It’s perfection — I’m sure it’ll be well loved! And I hope you appreciate being The Aunt Who Knits Sweaters!
