Sometimes it’s the most minor thing . . . that can stymie your progress.
For me, this week, it’s been this silly slice on the index finger of my right hand. I have no idea how it even happened . . . paper cut? a nick from a knife in the kitchen? a gardening something-or-other? No. Idea. And it’s minor enough that I didn’t even notice it.
Until I picked up my knitting.
Apparently, that little cut landed on what appears to be a highly critical anatomical point in my knitting. Because the only time I notice that stupid cut . . . is when I’m knitting.
It’s not stopping me. Too much. Although I find I’m needing to alter the way I hold my right needle. And I notice I’m moving the yarn more intentionally – and gingerly – when I knit. It’s slowing my progress and disturbing my flow.
All that to say . . . I’m not spending as much time knitting as I might under normal circumstances. So while I’m making progress with my little blue bandana, I’ve got a ways to go yet before finishing.
But that’s okay.
Because who needs anything around their neck in a heat wave?

How about you? What are you working on this week?

I knew right where the cut was before I even scrolled down to see the picture. It will heal soon enough and you’ll be back to knitting normally. It’s supposed to be 103 here today, so I know I won’t be wearing anything around my neck for the foreseeable future. That is a lovely bandanna and I hope I can knit one in the fall (if purl soho ever has that delightful yarn back in stock).
Oh boy…. sorry about that! That is really a poor injury placement! But your bandana is just gorgeous! I love the color of that yarn… it really has wonderful depth! (and like Bonny… I am on the list to be notified when the yarn is back in stock! Ha!) I hope you are finding ways to stay cool and that your finger heals soon! XO
Try rubbing in a little aquaphor (even a bandaid over night) and the cut will heal in a NY minute. I didn’t realize the whole country was hot, hot! We hit 109! on Sunday. Ugh. It’s staying close (but not quite) 100 the rest of the week. Boy I hope the “monsoon” comes in to give us some relief. Hope you get a little cooling, too!
I second Margene’s suggestion for Aquaphor and also suggest CeraVe Healing Ointment. Yes, put a bandaid over it or even better a hydrocolloid bandage that is likely to stay on longer. I find that the boo-boos that drive me crazy are mostly on my hands and feet these days. Your bandana is lovely!
I agree with others who have suggested a little Aquaphor and a bandaid (and a brief break from knitting while it heals). Fortunately I’m sure you can find a good book to read in the interim! I frequently get cuts like that, and it is indeed very frustrating, but they do seem to heal pretty quickly if you give them a chance. When I first started knitting socks, I used to get a split in my left index finger, apparently from pushing the tip of a too-sharp needle as part of forming a stitch. And if I put a bandaid on it, it would always catch on the needles. I guess I’ve toughened up by now!
Those injuries to our hands are so frustrating when they interfere with our knitting! I’d probably be reading more instead! I hope it’s better very soon.
Ugh…you want to knit! Complete fire haze zone here today…a red world that was so eerie. So…we dodged a potential scorchah. One more sleeve on my epic sweater! But shopping shawls for travel knitting…considering that bandana!
Frustrating. Happens to me all the time. I use Neosporin and a band-aid. Aquaphor may be better – I’ll have to buy some one day – but Neosporin is what I have around the house.
