My life has been very . . . full . . . for the last several weeks. Not the over-the-top-busy of my days as a working mom with active kids and a calendar crammed with things to do and places to go (thank goodness). Just the . . . fullness . . . of lots of things hitting my calendar at the same time. Plus a suddenly-exploding garden. Plus opening the cabin up north. Plus . . . well. All the “stuff” that a change of season brings.
In other words . . . no personal crises or concerns going on. Just a whole lotta Regular Life is happening all at once.
And, of course, the burning world (full of actual crises and very real concerns) continues to burn in the background and eat away at my soul.
Sigh.
Yesterday, while I was out running a seemingly never-ending list of errands, I decided that even though I certainly didn’t have the time, I would TAKE the time to escape for a few minutes. To one of my happy places. And I steered my car toward my favorite local nursery. (Knowing full well that I would not escape empty-handed. Which would exacerbate my garden-exploding thing.) (Oh, well. Regular Life.)

Turns out . . . it was the absolute RIGHT thing for me to do.
A little basking in the sounds and smells of the nursery. A little browsing. A little on-the-fly garden design on the top of my cart. (Will I ever tire of the bright greens and deep purple color combination? I think not.) A little planning for the future in my garden (although Tom did say we-probably-don’t-need-any-more-trees) (and I heard him) (I really did).
That escape . . . in a very FULL time . . . was actually just what I needed.
I highly recommend that you, too, find an escape of some sort this weekend.
It helps. When life feels too full. (Plus the burning world thing. . . )
Enjoy your weekend.
Take time to breathe.
(And I left the tree right where it is there in the nursery.) (But I do know where it is . . . ) (Because he did say PROBABLY.)

I love everything about this! The impromptu-ness of it. The delight that a greenhouse holds. The smells that only it has! It is impossible to be among all those gorgeous plants and be in a bad mood… even if you entered with a burden, those plants quickly settle you into the land of happiness! (and probably is such a perfect word! Ha!)
Your nursery! There is nothing in Utah as full of amazing plants, healthy and colorful plants. Not to say we don’t have wonderful nurseries, but NOTHING quite like yours. It was so smart of you to take a break and buy your favorite greens and purple loveliness. It’s the right call for you!!
I love this. Perfect escape. Your gardening is always so inspiring!! Also just that dirt & plant smell is happy-making.
Like Margene, I’m envious of your nursery (and I think you have others, too). I have a decent one, but it’s almost an hour away so I have to make a concerted effort to get there. I’m glad you took a break, found some green and purple loveliness, and listened to Tom (for now, anyway). Enjoy your time planting!
