Just before I left for my trip to England, I wound yarn and cast on for a “travel project” to take with me. I don’t usually actually knit when I travel, but I do tend to drag projects with me wherever I go (y’know. . . just in case). This time, though, the setting and various travel situations lent themselves to soothing, “down-time” knitting. And what do you know? I arrived back home with a half-knit shawl.
And . . . now it’s finished!
And . . . it is a beauty!
I had been planning to knit another Hitchhiker, which is an ideal travel project. But then I found this pattern . . . just sittting there, all alone and never knit . . . in my Ravelry library. It’s kinda Hitchhiker-esque (although with a more curved shape, and no teeth, of course), so I decided to give it a try.
I loved knitting it! It was soothing and meditative; a great travel companion — and then a good tv-watching companion once I got back home. (Although not when watching The Pitt.) (Just sayin.)
As I usually do, I wrote up the relevant project details in my Field Notes, and I included a few more photos, too . . . So click on over if you’re interested in seeing/learning more.
How about you?
What are you working on these days?
Lovely! I think I might have some Sport/DK weight yarn in my stash! The construction of that shawl looks interesting as well… and sometimes you just don’t want any “teeth” in your knitting! I really like that color too Kym… perfect for year around wear!
It’s a stunner, Kym!
Kym, this is a stunner! I usually can take or leave a shawl. I enjoy knitting them, but usually don’t wear them much, in fact I think I have given away most of them. I am going to look at this pattern and your field notes, for sure! And I love the color! This section of the color spectrum includes almost all of my favorites hues.
That is a lovely shawl! I love the yarn, especially how it looks different in different lighting. It’s a great pattern, pretty yet practical. I think everyone should have a fence for showing off handknit shawls and the eyelet shadows they cast!
Oh man! What a gorgeous color for a shawl. I’m going to look at your Field Notes and hope that you say what the yarn is! The pattern looks really nice as well. I have SO MANY shawl patterns, but I may need to add another one!
That hit all the sweet spots — not too hard, not too easy, great yarn, beautiful, and wearable shawl. Gorgeous!
I, too, just finished a shawl! I’m so excited to have something besides a sock as an FO. Often I say I’m not really a knitter as I just don’t take the time to do this craft I love(d) so much. But, I am trying to decide what next to knit–not a sock. You mixed a perfect yarn with a lovely pattern. The shawl looks SO cozy and the color is rich. Nicely done, Kym.
That is a lovely shawl. You did a great job on the knitting.
That looks like the perfect project for when you need some calming while traveling (travel always seems to be so anxiety provoking!) and the bonus is that it’s a lovely shawl that looks really wearable. Bravo!
It’s lovely! I just checked and I have this pattern in my library.
Helen Stewart does such lovely patterns!
