I’m so glad you’ve found me. 

Maybe you’re here because you visited Stepping Away From the Edge today . . . and followed the link here. Maybe someone shared the link with you and you decided to check it out. Or maybe you just discovered this place on your own. However you got here, I hope you’ll take the time to read the story about my big move, and find out why I decided to . . . begin again . . . in a whole ‘nother place. 

It’s kinda like . . .  I moved into a new house. I have a new address. I’ve painted the walls and moved the furniture in. This new house is bigger than my old one, and is configured altogether differently. But . . . it’s still the same old me living here, y’know? (In fact, if you liked visiting Stepping Away From the Edge, I think you’ll find that this new space will feel very familiar, as I’ll be writing about the same kinds of things, and sharing the same kinds of stories.) (I’m just doing it from a new location.)

Let’s take a quick tour of my new house !

When you open the front door, you’ll find yourself on the HOME page, and the first thing you’ll see is a link to my most current blog post. Underneath that featured post, you’ll find links to 6 of my most recent posts. (Today, when you take a closer look, you may see some posts that you’ve already read on Stepping Away From the Edge. That’s because I’ve been secretly “double posting” to both blogs for the last couple of weeks. There will be no more of that, though. All new posts will show up here, on Dancing at the Edge.)

Down the hall, you’ll find the ABOUT page, which features my bio and my blogging story . . . which explains how I got started, and why I decided to (ahem) “step away” from my old blog and start this new one.

The next door on your right will take you to the NEWSLETTER page. Yeah. You read that correctly. I’ve decided to offer a monthly Dancing at the Edge newsletter beginning in January 2023. I’m still working on the details, but you can read all about it, and you can even sign up for it. 

Head up the stairs and you’ll find the FIELD NOTES page, which is still (very much) under construction, but you’ll be able to get a sense of what’s to come. I like using Ravelry to keep track of my knitting projects, but I’ve often wished for some way to keep track of my other creative pursuits. So I’ve created a portfolio, with photos and information about some of my other projects. You’ll find my sewing, drawing, painting, art journaling, and . . . eventually even gardening . . . projects detailed in my Field Notes.

Finally, heading down the back stairs, you’ll find a dedicated READ WITH US resource page. This page will always feature the current Read With Us book selection, including all the information and resources that Bonny, Carole, and I share in our individual Read With Us blog posts (reviews, interviews, synopses, etc). You can also find the details for the upcoming Zoom book discussion, along with  a list of all our previous Read With Us book selections.

You’ll find a handy SIDEBAR running down the length of the hallway. It includes links to my social media sites and email, a handy list of my most recent posts, thumbnail photos of my “recent works” (the most recent additions to my Field Notes), a list of blog categories (you can click in to see my posts grouped by category). There are a few other little tidbits there, as well.

In the basement, you’ll find the FOOTER. It includes links to my pages and categories (which will be helpful if you’re reading on your phone), and another opportunity for you to sign up for the newsletter.

It’s a lot to take in, I know. And, like with any move to a new place, there will likely be a few adjustments to come. It took me a lot of time and effort to build this “new house.” I’m excited about it – and I hope you will be, too!

Special Acknowledgments

Blogging, like so many other aspects of life, really does . . . take a village. I have a few special folks to thank today. First, my thanks to the ultimate you-can-do-this cheerleader, Kat (As Kat Knits). Kat spent a lot of time trying to get me up to speed on All Things WordPress, and let me tell you . . . if you ever need a cheerleader? Kat’s got your back! Ultimately, though, I needed to call in the tech-troops in the form of Ben (Blue Tree Web Design ). Ben helped translate my dreams-on-paper into the site as you see it today. He also (patiently) taught me to use WordPress, and provided a much-needed, simple explanation of exactly what “widgets” are. Erin, my tech-y daughter, helped me understand “information architecture” and how to make websites work . . . without added “bling.” Bonny (Highly Reasonable) and Karel (my in-real-life friend) carefully combed through my new site, trying ALL the links and reading every word – and providing detailed and valuable feedback along the way. I also had a group of “advance readers” – my sister Diane, Gale Zucker, Vicki, and Carole – who provided feedback and made me feel generally-okay about launching the new blog. And, of course, I couldn’t have done any of this without Tom’s support and encouragement. He kept me laughing, poured me glasses of wine, and asked for daily “blogress” updates. (Thanks, Honey.)
