So. Um. Here we are . . . MID-September.
Yes. Can you believe it?
MID-September.
As in HALF of September is already gone. Which means we’re already HALF-way to October.
And this is just . . . totally unfathomable to me.
But there we are.
At mid-month, I’m dealing with some low-level unpleasantness . . .
- seasonal allergies (hello, fall)
- day 5 of a dog with diarrhea (that would be JoJo)
- an uncooperative and cranky old man (that would be my dad)
- and long-ignored to-do list items (my own fault)
What’s helping?
Good TV! Tom and I usually sit down and watch some TV together after dinner. What’ve we been watching lately? Van der Valk (season 3) recently dropped on Masterpiece Theater (PBS). And we’re finally getting around to watching Unforgotten (also on Masterpiece Theater/PBS). While there is a new season of Unforgotten “unfolding” on PBS, we’re still watching the early seasons and getting caught up. Both shows are entertaining, and highly recommended.
Good music! Lately, I’ve been listening to Jon Batiste’s World Music Radio . . . on repeat. It’s really good. Give it a listen. . . if you’re not already a fan.

Fun products! First . . . I’ve got Miracle Balm from Jones Road Beauty. This stuff . . . well. It just kept popping up on my Instagram feed. And I kept ignoring it. I’m not much into “makeup.” I don’t want to fuss. I’m fine with my face as it is. I didn’t really pay attention. And then . . . I did. And I caved. I watched a couple of videos about the product, and decided to give it a try. And you know what? I really, really like it! It doesn’t give a “made-up” look. It just adds a nice glow — and a perfect amount of moisturizer. It feels good. It looks natural. I’m sold!
Then . . . I’ve got my new, fun, inspirational workout shirts from Old Lady Gains! (Also . . . thanks to Instagram, I’m afraid.) These shirts are fun, they fit really well, they’re super comfortable, and . . . did I mention fun? If you’re looking for some inspirational old-lady-themed workout gear? This is the place!
And that’s where I am . . . at mid-month!

DON’T FORGET! Bonny, Carole, and I will be discussing this quarter’s Read With Us selection on TUESDAY, September 19 on our blogs — and with a Zoom discussion at 7:00 pm (Eastern time). I’ll be sending out the Zoom invitation on Monday afternoon, so be sure to RSVP before then. You can click on the link in the sidebar (either from my home page or on the Read With Us page) to send me an email/RSVP. (Or you can just comment on this post.) I hope you can join us! It’s sure to be an interesting discussion!
I just love Piet and his team! (it is one of my favorite shows on PBS!) And well… anything with Nicola Walker… just sayin! I just wish I had seen this before I braved Ulta this week to refresh now very tiny makeup drawer! Sigh. XO
I also have seasonal allergies, but thankfully, no dog with diarrhea and have dealt with my own uncooperative and cranky old man before (at least until John reaches that stage). So you have my sympathies, but at least you also have ways of dealing with these things. I no longer have “regular TV” so I’ve forgotten about Masterpiece Theater, but I do have PBS Passport and I’m looking forward to lots of seasons of Unforgotten and Van der Valk.
Sorry about the not so great things but thanks for the Jones Road review. I’ve seen that frequently on TikTok and wondered if it was worth it.
Looking forward to reading with you all – though I need to get my skates on – I accidentally returned the audio book I was listening to on Libby and now I’ve got some reading to do. We are also enjoying Van der Valk & Unforgotten. I’m glad you have some consolations, because low-level unpleasantness (and IS a dog with diarrhea low level?) is hard enough.
Thanks for shaking this old (sometimes cranky) lady up. But I do try to go with the modern flow…sometimes. A very experienced hair stylist recently suggested facial Oil any type (as opposed to water-base) and Vitamin E to counteract dryness, but I may give the Miracle Balm a try. We are at the “bring out the big guns” stage here. Love the t-shirts! (If only I would actually Work Out.). Love PBS. Thanks for all the info! Chloe
Oh, yes, my sympathies re Jojo! Hope it resolves soon!
Allergies, oh yuck. Autumn is worse than spring. The pink in your flowers (LOVE–(not sure what they are) and the T-shirt is fab! Looking forward to Tuesday!
We just finished the new season of Unforgiven (watched the old seasons this summer) – loved it. I have also been thinking more about my skin and lotion and maybe even trying some mascara? It has been a long time but with winter coming and having spent too much of the summer sitting inside, I am looking for a bit of a boost.
First, oh poor JoJo. I’m sure you’re trying everything but have you tried pumpkin? That works for our dogs (well only one now) when it hits.
Second, I am a total Roadie! It took a while to figure out the best use of MB but now I use it religiously! I have two full sized and a lot of minis (they usually release those every two years). I also have WTF that I use during ‘bad skin’ days as well as some face pencils and their eye cream. I also just ordered (yikes!) their new lip pencil and a gloss. I find I don’t have to wear moisturizer during the day if I use MB which is good for my own skin (YMMV) and I do love my glow.
I am sorry for the unpleasantness – low level or not. I recall the days of helping out my Dad and the role-reversal wasn’t easy for the two of us. I do love the tee-shirts. Instagram is kind of a rabbit hole.
I meant to tell you: After you posted a picture of yourself wearing the “Age is not an excuse” shirt I scouted out their website and bought TWO! “Live Ageless” and “Midcentury Marvel.” LOVE them, so thanks!
I hope JoJo is on the mend. I’ve been getting the Jones Road push as well- happy to see your good review! Enjoy book group – I’ll be on the last day of our Canadian adventure. I’ll miss you!
You look fabulous! and all “glow-y” … Bobbi should feature YOU in her Instagram ads 🙂 We fell HARD into Unforgotten a few weeks back and finished Season 4 Friday night. now taking a little breather. such a great show. I’ve now read the first two of Val McDermid’s Karen Pirie “cold cases” books and they’re good. but wow, Unforgotten is better.
We watched a season of Unforgotten a couple years ago. Such a good show! and now there are more seasons – yay!
