Last month, an Etsy ad showed up on my Instagram feed (as they do). And, well, let’s just say Instagram has my number when it comes to feeding me . . . temptations.
I clicked.
I sighed.
I added-to-cart.
And now . . . I’m embroidering a sweet little canvas tote bag (with an inside pocket!).
When I ordered the kit, I worried that the canvas might be too stiff to work with/stitch on. But – no problem! It’s soft and weathered and perfect — a really nice bag. The embroidery floss is included, although I’m going to add in a few colors I have on hand to “spice” things up a bit. The directions are minimal – but clear, and there are QR codes in the directions that lead to video instructions (which is pretty clever). The only thing that’s kinda tricky . . . is maneuvering all the fabric when I’m stitching near the corners. (There’s just a little . . . awkwardness. But just near the corners.) (It reminds me of embroidering on shirts and overalls back in the day.)
I think this is going to be a fun little stitching project.
Right up my alley.
Instagram? It’s like you know me or something . . .

How about you? What are you working on this week?
The algorithm certainly got you right! That bag is really lovely. I’ll have to pay more attention to Instagram ads and see what Meta thinks I might want to buy.
Ah yes – there are times when I swear I only *think* something, and then it shows up in an Instagram ad!
This looks like the perfect project for you, enjoy.
Uh-Oh…I love this and I may HAVE to order one for myself!! What a pretty project and it would be a fun bag to carry knitting in!
What a wonderful project. I’m trying to finish a test knit cowl and doing a bit of sorting and decluttering in my sewing room. I followed an IG post to a dress pattern so . . .
That canvas looks pretty soft. Is it soft? The ones at Michael’s are pretty stiff. I don’t embroider but thought it might be fun to stem-stitch or similar some fun words on there. Would love it if you could describe your process. A hoop? What needles? Stitches used. Not much else, I guess, until we see the finished project.
This so awesome! The colors are perfect and the canvas looks beautifully weathered (as you said) and easy to work with a sharp needle. You’ll enjoy this charming bit of garden fun whenever you need to carry knitting, or books, or garden stuffs. It very obvious Instagram has your number.
You’re carefully and lovingly curated Instagram feed insures that you get just-right ads! I love that for you and I love this little tote bag!
Yep, that bag definitely screams Kym! It’s very sweet and I’m sure the fiddly-ness is going to be more than worth it.
Oh, Kym! Aren’t algorithms wonderful? That is one cute bag!
That embroidery is so lovely. I’d have been tempted too.
It is so sweet! I bet you enjoy using it!
I am such a sucker for a tote. This is adorable.
I’m so glad that you like it! I ordered it in the canvas color and haven’t received it yet. Seeing yours makes me excited to get started on it!
I do love when Instagram serves up something perfect (which does seem to happen fairly often?!) and that tote bag looks great – totally fun to embroider, and then fun and practical to use.
Oh Instagram, do you read our minds? What a sweet little project. I’m interested to see how you might “spice it up.”
Oh, man, that’s CUTE!!!
