You know what’s really hard to say?
Garden Cardigan.
Seriously . . . try saying it twice in a row . . . and I’ll bet you end up saying “gardigan-cardigan.” Which is what I did . . . every time I said the pattern name out loud while I was knitting this thing! I finally just gave up and call it the “gardigan-cardigan” now.
Anyway. It’s finally finished! (I’ve been knitting – and, mostly, not knitting – this for months. . . ) And I’m happy to formally – and finally – introduce you.
I’m really happy with the way it turned out, and I know I’ll wear it quite a lot.
Maybe even out in the garden . . .
If you’d like to see more photos or read about the (ahem) knitty-gritty details, you can check out my field notes, here.

How about YOU?
What are you working on these days?
That stitch pattern is really lovely, well done. I have joined a study group about Gansey sweaters (history and construction) so I am thinking about stitch patterns and knitting as storytelling. It isn’t going to be a fast journey.
That really turned out nicely Kym. Love the color and the pattern is fab. Well done!!
It is gorgeous Kym… Gardigan Cardigan’s debut in the snow might be a bit of an oxymoron… but I can almost hear your garden snoring gently under that blanket of snow! I am knitting with Felted Tweed right now and I really like how it feels and although I am carrying it with Kid Silk Haze, it seems like a yarn that would make a good workhorse sweater!
You’ve knit a really lovely cardigan, whatever you call it! While it’s far too nice for a “dig in the dirt” sweater, I hope that you and the cardigan spend lots of nice gardening weather together, without snow!
Lovely, Kym! So worth all the thought and work that you put into it.
That looks like a keeper!!
It’s beautiful! Congratulations. The colors great too!
I laughed at your “and mostly not knitting” – my current project has been one I’ve been knitting (and not knitting) for a long time – a Traveler’s Shell (really a short sleeve cardigan, I wouldn’t call it a shell at all, but I digress). This last trip back to this sweater, I’ve finally gotten the rhythm of the pattern and I can see the end. I’m working on the button bands, so surely that’s true.
Beautiful! That color is so pretty.
This is beautiful, Kym. It looks like a fabulous transitional sweater, not too hot, not too light. The color looks great on you.
I love everything about your gardigan cardigan, the name, the color, the fit. Rowan Felted Tweed looks like a lovely yarn to show the stitch pattern. I am interested in trying your method of leaving the ribbing for last after a book blocking. My current sweater knit might benefit from that technique.
I love how happy you look!
Your Gardigan-Cardigan looks fabulous! I agree with Kim… you look so happy wearing this sweater!
I feel inspired to make one for myself.
That looks wonderful on you and the color is gorgeous. Well done, you!
Love the cardigan! The color is so pretty.
What a wonderful finish! I love those snowy photos. I spied some hellebore blooms in the snow today and your cardigan reminds me of them.
The Gardigan Cardigan is beautiful. I’m thinking it will see some wear during the Spring and Fall. What a pretty color.
That is a gorgeous color on you, Kym, especially with the snowy backdrop!
The cardigan looks like a nice sweater to pull on anytime. I like the way it looks with jeans, like its ready for a fun day! Love the length of your hair, too. (is that a dum thing to say to a girlfriend?)
Love it Kym! Maybe I’ll give it another go one day!
