Twinkle lights.
Bits and bobs of knitting detritus.
Needles. Stitch markers. An iPad.
And coffee.
But what’s that there in the center? Amidst the tiny bobbles?
Why . . . It’s a perfect little wee mitten!
With a thumb and everything.
Fit for a gnome.
Waiting now for an arm.
My knitting has kind of stalled out this week (I’ve been busy with other things . . .) so my gnome is still “in progress.” But I have reached the Fussy Parts stage of things.
Fussy, yes.
But oh-so-clever.

That is a very sweet wee little mitten! I am working on locating my knitting needles. So many things got misplaced while I was cleaning out my house and having my floors refinished. I “think” I may know where they are, but I have yet to find them. Wish me luck!
It’s funny how we all have that same tableau, but mine is on the love seat cushion next to me. I’ve been planning a pair of full-size mittens for myself, but your little tiny mitten with a thumb is impressive! I hope you continue in the fussy stage without too much fuss.

I am normally not one for fussy knitting, but for whatever reason, I mind it less when it comes to gnomes (though I might have told you differently last night, when I was working short rows in the round over a very small number of stitches). Can’t wait to see the rest of yours!
Sarah’s patterns are always SO very clever. And while it’s fussy, at least it’s small and quick. I wish I could sit by your side and drink coffee with you while you knit away.
Not working on another one but the tiniest project I ever knit was an 18-stitch cast on Christmas stocking in worsted yarn that fits just barely in my cupped hand. The first one was absolutely adorable and adorns our secondary tree (table model) but subsequent disappointing tries never achieved that same chubby cuteness. It all depended on the exact proportions and with only 18 stitches and 21 rows, one stitch off or a slightly different gauge with a slightly different yarn destroyed the whole look of the thing. So I will take what I can get and enjoy one brief, shining piece of fussy knitting once a year. Your gnome I’ll bet will be around all year for a long, long time. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
For anyone interested in such a Quick project there are two versions. The really cute one with the cute proportions I think I accidentally achieved is a crochet pattern by Kelly Dolezal on Ravelry. The knitting pattern (along with a video tutorial) is free on Ravelry ($2.99 on Etsy) by Snufflebean yarns. It’s a little longer in the leg part which is nice, of course, but not as cute. I think I accidentally made it shorter which achieved that chubbiness. Who knows??
