It’s the middle of August . . . and I offer this R-E-P-O-R-T.
At mid-month I’m . . .
R . . . elishing.
I know many of you don’t care much for summer. But I am, truly, a summer person . . . and I DO care much for summer. I think it’s that . . . barefoot kind of feeling. Y’know, the general lack of structure and the carefree-ness of everything. So I am relishing these final weeks of “true” summer.
E . . . ntertaining.
Guess what?!! My sister is visiting for a few days! (Here we are, earlier today . . . two girls, just yucking it up together after a big breakfast out.)
P . . . laying.
I think I (may have) finally gotten the making-charms thing out of my system. Earlier this week, I cleaned up my “studio” and put all the charm-stuff away. I even organized it all. Now I’m back to playing around . . . mostly with my watercolors.
O . . . bserving.
We’ve got some interesting wildlife in the garden this summer. There are the Usual Suspects, of course . . . songbirds, hawks, frogs, rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, those dang deer. But recently we’ve also had an osprey sighting . . . and, the other night, a very vocal great horned owl. I love spotting (or hearing) new critters in the garden.
R . . . eminding.
Don’t forget . . . to play along with the Summer Vibes Scavenger Hunt! You’ve got a couple of weeks to finish up with the list and submit your entries. Finish strong, y’all. Enjoy the summer! AND also keep your eye on the calendar . . . because the next Read With Us discussion is only a month away (September 17). Our book is The Ministry of Time (which appeared on President Obama’s recently-released Summer Reading list). You’ve still got plenty of time to . . . read with us.
T . . . aking.
As in . . . taking action! For years and years, I have wanted a new living room couch (and, for that matter, chairs). I purchased our current couch and chairs in (it almost pains me to say this) . . . 1998. Whenever I broach the subject of perhaps updating the pieces, Tom (aka Mr. Function-over-Form) argues that they are “so comfortable” and “holding up well.” Which is true. They are. But 1998 was a long time ago now. And I think . . . it’s time. I have gotten Tom on board. So let the shopping begin

And that’s it for me. How about you?
What’s going on for you . . . at mid-month?
=====
I’m taking a few days off to spend time with my sister. See you next Wednesday — and have a great weekend.
I envy your finally getting your husband on board and seeking out new couches. That’s on my forever-long list of things TO DO! Along with the rest of the forever-long list of things. I’m also a summer person and I LOVE having my windows open for most of the summer (July doesn’t count). Barefeet, patio time, and garden (although I don’t spend much time there), and reading outdoors…all heaven (and a few other dozen things, too). Enjoy your sisterly time!
What a difference a month makes. It’s good to see you positively REPORTing again. (And the osprey/owl thing is cool!)
I love summer! Autumn used to be my favorite season but the older (and creakier) I get the more I love summer….Regarding nature, we often sight a near-by hawk whose nest is visible from our yard (at least we assume it ‘s his nest). One day it whooshed inches across my windshield as I pulled out of my garage. You don’t know the speed, power and size of these birds of prey until you see them in action up close and personal. I remember feeling so privileged to be allowed this experience (although I am sure the nearby rabbits and squirrels were shaking in their, er..paws). Happy summer-and-sister time to you, Kym!
I am going to borrow some of your summer love vibes to get me through these last days of summer! Have fun with your sister! XO
I’m so glad that you and your sister are together and I know you are laughing and having fun! Good luck with the couch shopping, that’s exciting! I feel like I always see furniture I love when I’m not actually looking for it, but when I’m trying to purchase it I can never find what I want. I’ll be working on that summer scavenger hunt next week, this summer girl see you!
Have a wonderful visit with your sister! I’m focusing on soaking up the last of the summer — and on tackling the remaining items on the scavenger hunt list (visiting a farmer’s market is on today’s list).
Enjoy your sister time. I love the osprey and owl news. Thursday night Colin and I walked after dinner and saw a hawk perched on a telephone pole. I had planned to meet up with C&M at the local Farmer’s Market today, but I did not sleep well…and now it’s raining…so perhaps next week.
If you see a sofa and chairs that you like, maybe you can order a set for me, too? I hate furniture shopping and I really should replace ours as I’ve mended several places in the fabric. I have been out every night for the past week or so trying to lay eyes on our vocal screech owl. No luck yet, but he keeps calling so I keep looking. Have fun with your sister!
Yay, sister time!! Have a wonderful time together (it looks like you’ve got a good start)!!
I’m so glad your sister is there for a visit and while I think the photo above is from your in-town home, I hope y’all are enjoying some time Up North! Things are back-to-school getting busy here – our adult small group programs kick off at church next month and it’s a Big Deal to make sure that everything is ready. and I’m figuring out ways to get engaged in the various Democratic campaign efforts along with some gun sense work. full. rewarding. hopeful. and FUN!
Have fun with your sister and enjoy these last days of summer.
