It’s Friday . . . and I’m inviting you to share your pieces-of-happy and other good stuff you noticed this week. We all could use a boost these days – and sharing the joy in our lives is a great way to get it.
As for me . . .
I have 4 little pieces-of-happy to share today.
First . . . I heard the happiest words you can hear at a dental check-up/cleaning appointment this week . . . “No cavities! Everything looks great! See you in six months!”
And . . . I’m happy to be getting my “attention-groove” back. I got a Brick device in early January, and I’ve been using it to help me break my phone scrolling habit. Friends . . . it’s working for me! I hardly even pick up my phone anymore (unless I actually need to use it for something), and I am feeling so much more calm — and far less distracted. My focus is definitely improving, and I’m sleeping better, too. I can’t tell you what a happy difference this silly device has made in my day-to-day life.
Then . . . yesterday morning I figured out a solution for a sticky knitting error I’d made the night before on my Waffle Pullover. (Really. I know better than to mix speed skating and knitting a mosaic pattern. Sheesh.) I identified the problem and figured out a way to fix it that didn’t involve ripping out a whole (very long) round. I feel so accomplished when I can execute a knitting maneuver like that — and save myself a major headache.
Finally . . . my seed orders are beginning to arrive! It’s time to start thinking about gardening again . . . and that is huge chunk-of-happy for me.
==========
How about you?
What have you noticed this week that made you feel good? What pieces-of-happy showed up in your life? Where did you find joy?
Despite all the ugly stuff happening around us, we DO have good things happening in our lives.
So . . . join me for Happy Hour!
Let’s share the good stuff here in the comments!
Happy Hour will remain open all weekend, so come back and see what others have shared.

You’ve got some lovely good things this week! I haven’t heard about Brick, but it is intriguing, and congratulations on fixing a knitting error without ripping out. My good news this week is the grand jury in Washington, D.C. that declined to indict Mark Kelly and the five other Democrats for their video about not obeying illegal orders. The grand jury is composed of regular citizens that said NO to an abuse of power, just like the grand jury that didn’t indict the guy that threw a Subway sandwich at a federal agent. We can’t count on Congress, and oftentimes the courts are iffy, but regular citizens standing up and wielding power where they can is a good thing.
Ooo! Those seeds look interesting! This week I have melting snow (!) and I sent a raft of “care packages” out into the world. Some tea to a dear friend, some chocolate monsters to some grandchildren and a big old gallon of pure maple syrup to my son! But perhaps the best thing was treating myself to a Rilke and Rodin lecture (they were very good friends, which I did not know at all!)
When I hear the term brick, I think of the original mobile phones. Now those were actual bricks! I’m glad you have found a solution to your distraction. My good news this week is the weather. It has been warm and sunny here, and even though the weekend is forecast to be a 2 day deluge, who cares? I have had a great dose of sunshine and warmth, so I am set to endure it. My SIL is making gumbo for Mardi Gras on Saturday, so I will have a lovely day despite the rain.
Such good (and happy) things Kym. My joy this week was finding the cutest little felted bunny basket for Iris for Easter (picture on my blog). Also looking forward to an outing with the kids and Iris and Mailing’s parents on Sunday. Our seed catalogues are piling up – we get one just about daily!
My good thing is the pleasure it’s given me to learn that the sugarcane/grass in the Super Bowl half time was people in costume. Something so excellent and ridiculous is a wonderful thing.
My sister is back home from rehab after having a stroke.
I conquered 1 over 1 stitching on some tricky linen.
And, last but not least, it is date night.
Living in WI my car was very, very (very) dirty from salt and mud but I refuse to sit in line for an hour to go through the car wash. My husband swapped cars with me yesterday and took mine to the car wash and then detailed it when he got home. So many people at work today have commented on how pretty my car is! It makes me happy that hubby’s effort is being recognized.
Someday I hope to find the beautiful zinnia seeds you have. However, I did receive a package seeds in as many varieties of color as I could find. I’m so excited to plant zinnias again this year. Last year I could not take care of them and they suffered from the heat. This year I will be around to water every day and make sure they reach their full potential. I had a slew of birds at my feeder this week and saw a hairy woodpecker as well as a downy (and I could tell the difference!). Did I tell you about the American Eagle who sat in a tree near by and stayed there for hours just checking out the Village? So cool.
I didn’t get a chance to read or comment yesterday because I woke up to a sick dog — seems Ruthie decided to try to eat some plastic. I am very thankful for our vet practice, which got us in for a same-day appointment and took great care of her. She’s now back to her usual self and even slept in today! This weekend we’re due to have two days well above freezing, which I hope will take care of most of the remaining snow and ice. And for a little whimsy, while I was filling up the coffee pot this morning, I got treated to some rainbows in the kitchen sink.
How did I miss this? I check your blog everyday. Oh well. My big happy was lunch out with my husband on Valentine’s Day and absorbing all the happy smiles on the faces of couples and families all around us. Seems Valentine’s has become a Gathering reason for all kinds of family groups, these days. We love each other’s company, of course, but at our age, we are no longer absorbed in just each other and are buoyed by an entire roomful beaming with joy. Dinner included filet mignon and luscious lemon layer cake, a Valentine’s feast if ever there was one.
Let’s see . . . good things this week: I won $400 on a Super Bowl square and Dale and I happily spent it on new shoes and boots for both of us yesterday. The cold snap here seems to have broken and I just got my electric bill and it was only $17 more than last month. And I got a huge kick out of watching the crows under the bird feeder the other day as they hopped up and down from the path Dale had cleared to the mound of snow under the feeder. They were so comical. I love this weekly theme because I really do look for things all week to share when Friday rolls around.
Although I generally try to avoid “retail therapy”, I indulged myself this week while browsing at my lys – always dangerous, right? And bought sock yarn in the most uplifting palette of red, orange, yellow, coral and more! I’ve had it on the kitchen table all week, for the sheer visual joy! $30, well spent!
Thanks for hosting us for happy hour, Kym.
There are some very happy notes here, from you and the other readers. My thoughts are turning toward the yard and garden as the sun shines warmly here. I have also taken some long walks under glorious sunshine and blue skies.
