Woo hoo . . . witchy woman . . . she got the moon in her eye . . .
(And little black cats, to boot!)
Pure, fussy Halloween fun, I tell ya.
(Although I’m really glad they’re finished now, and I can move on to . . . something else. Something preferably NOT fussy and small.)
For all the details, more photos, AND my “hack” for an easier start to these fussy little things, click here to be whisked over to my Field Notes for this project.

How about YOU? What are you working on this week?
They are just too fun! I love the cats! My tip (if one does not want to seam anything up) for small starts…cast on one needle and knit like you are knitting I-cord! And use wooden needles… really, it makes all the difference! I usually knit “i-cord-style” until I have at least 4 stitches per needle. It works for me! (also… the leaning… yeah, that can be a thing with knitted littles, I prefer dried beans as a weight, but I think a washer is a brilliant idea!!)
I am wondering if you could find some kind of a little cauldron for them?!
These are great Kym! I love the little black cats to go with the witches. And, your hack is genius!! I don’t like making these little fiddly things myself, but I sure do like seeing them!
They are indeed cute! I’m afraid that even with a good hack, I’m not much for fussy, but I certainly admire yours (especially with their green hands and faces)!
So cute! I am impressed at your patience. And hacks aren’t cheating if they work. Stephen West has lots of them! (Viewed his videos, haven’t worked any yet – the sheer color selection has me stymied.)….I also imagined cauldrons – maybe a cloud of “steam”using KSH in color “Ghost”. Thanks for the terrific entertainment!
They are adorable! I still think they need a cauldron, and I’ve even been thinking of how I would knit one while I’ve been out walking, so perhaps I need to design one for you.
They’re adorable! I’ve made Christmas gnomes that look almost identical to your witches except for the color. And the gnomes have noses and a beard. As for standing, the instructions for the gnomes said to take a piece of yarn, fasten it at the bottom center and using a big darning needle pull the yarn to the top of the body or head and pull til you get a “dimple” on the bottom of the body and then fasten the yarn off under the hat. The flattened body bottom will help it stand.
Well, you already know what I think, but I have to say it anyway: They’re just adorable!!
Too cute! The little brooms!!!!!!!!!!! Happy *almost* Halloween to all the little spookies.
You crafted your own little coven! They are so stinking cute!
Those are great! Personally, I avoid fussy knitting like the plague, but it makes me happy to see others making and enjoying them.
Just wonderful!!!!
So cute!
They turned out great! (and aren’t you glad you only have two kids) … I’m still knitting one-round stripes for Clam (ahoi), not at all fussy, just … a lot of rounds.
Oh, they’re perfect! I’ve been sidelined this week with COVID so after seeing your creations I bought the pattern and have been making a little witch every day. I’m on my fourth and final one. I filled mine with a little pile of dried beans at the bottom and they stand up nicely. Thanks for the inspiration!
Those little witches with their brooms and black cats are adorable. Well done.
So cute! I’m not a fiddly fan either but they are pretty special!!
SO CUTE! I have a thing for witches but (sadly) I am not enticed by all that fiddlyness. The black cat is a nice touch!
