The Four Tops, Can’t Help Myself

Rainbow Heart Garland

Pattern/Kit: Rainbow Heart Garland Needle Felting Kit

Designer: Felted Sky

Materials: (included in kit) felting wool – Felted Sky Felter’s Fleece needle felting wool/textured batting – in 12 rainbow colors, felting needles, hemp twine, tapestry needle; and (not included in kit) felting mat

Finished: February 11, 2024

Notes: I followed the detailed instructions included in the kit. As always, the instructions in Felted Sky kits are top notch; very clear and easy to follow. (There are video instructions as well, but I’ve never used them.) Although it’s always challenging to form shapes from wads of wool, the hearts are fairly straightforward and would make a good beginner’s project. (Just don’t get hung up on having perfectly uniform, matching hearts!)

Additional tips/notes for creating the garland: I followed the kit instructions, generally, but came up with a couple of ways to make things easier for myself. When stringing the hearts onto the strand of hemp twine, I found it much easier to pull the needle through the heart with a pair of snub-nosed pliers. I also placed a paper clip snug on the spot where I wanted the next knot to go (this would make sense if you have the directions) so I could snug the knot right up against the paper clip and tie it exactly where I wanted.

And what am I going to do with it? I’m not really sure! The garland is super cute — but a lot longer than I expected. I think next year, I’ll try to figure out a way to hang it on my mantle, but for now, it looks charming draped over a couple of prints in my kitchen.
