I finished my latest embroidery project last week. JoJo and I are excited to share it with you today!
(I’ve already told you all about the project in an earlier post, and I also summed it all up for you – in case you’re interested in more details and photos – here in my Field Notes, so I won’t go into the whole thing again in this space.)
This was just a lovely embroidery project to work on — fun, relaxing, and a nice change of pace from knitting. It seems like it didn’t take much time at all to complete, either, which is always nice. I had a great time playing around with colors, and I used the stitches I enjoy most.
What will I do with it now that it’s finished? I have no idea! It seems like it would make a nice pillow or wall hanging; maybe a tote bag. We’ll have to see. (According to Tom, we have plenty of pillows. Plenty, he says. Wall space is already at a premium at both my house and cabin so I’m not sure where a wall hanging fits in . . . and I surely don’t need another tote bag. So. Who knows!)
I always like to include a photo of the back side of my embroidery work. (You can see it in the gallery portion of my Field Notes.) When I was a little girl, my great-grandmother (who taught me how to embroider) always told me that neatness-on-the-back would lead to neatness-on-the-front . . . and that lesson stuck with me over the years. She was right, of course. So I try. (The proof is always in the pudding.)
Now that I’m done with my stitching project, I’m back to knitting (I’ll show you the knitting next week). But I am plotting my next embroidery project already, so stay tuned!
==========
How about you? What are you working on these days . . . as spring turns to summer?
JoJo looks quite happy with your project and it is charming and cheerful. I really like the chain stitching around the flowers. (It’s almost perfectly pillow-sized, just sayin’)!
This is just perfection, Kym! I love it! Every little medallion and those lovely, graceful stems of leaves! (So is it just a guy thing about pillows? I have heard Carole opine about this, Steve always is saying things about pillows… )
This is really lovely. Not sure what size it is but my first thought is that it would make a wonderful journal cover. I have all the things going on, stitching, quilting, knitting- life is full.
Add more to it and turn it into a table runner? Or frame it in a standing frame and put on a desk or shelf? I even thought of a hot pad but you’d hate to get it stained. I’m knitting chemo hats. I found out our local cancer center is sadly lacking in hats.
That’s just lovely! I find that I am now rotating all my embroidery and cross stitch so I can enjoy a piece for a few months and then swap it out. I always enjoy when Tim says, two weeks after I swap things around, “oh is that new?”
I love it, Kym! I wish I had some brilliant idea of what to do with it other than the ideas you’ve already thrown out. Tell JoJo she’s a fantastic model, too!
So stunning. Wish I had the talent (bloody fingers) and patience (not goin’ to happen). This a work of art, as are all of your projects. Sounds like I’m fawning, but I Really Mean It.
What lovely embroidery, Kym! When I saw it I immediately thought that it would make a sweet pillow! I wonder if it would work in a table mat or runner or as a notebook cover?
I’m another fan of the pillow! LOL. I also like the idea of a hot pad if you could find a way to cover it to protect it. And the journal cover is a great idea too (not sure about the size though). So glad you chose to use your own colors and do your own stitches. It is just lovely Kym!
I love it! It’s so pretty and colorful and it really would make a terrific throw pillow. When I did counted X stitch I always made sure the back was very neat. I never learned all these beautiful embroidery stitches, though.
The embroidery is lovely. Could you quilt around it and make a small table centerpiece?
Good God, that’s gorgeous! And fast? Wow. (That’d be months in the making for some of us.) I loved this from the first glimpse — and because it’s so sweet and enchanting, I’ve been thinking it’d be nice to use it in a way that you’d see it regularly without damaging it. Journal cover, just as Juliann said, is what I came up with. I think the table runner is a nice idea, too.
Whatever you choose, enjoy the spectacular fruits of your labor!
Adding more: love the idea of a table runner. A journal cover can get messy with use. At least for me! My great-grandmother didn’t teach me needlework. I was too young while she was alive. But she did teach me grace (at least how to recognize it. Don’t think it actually “took”.) and kindness (something that hopefully is still with me). Aren’t those very few of us who knew our great-grandparents so very, very lucky??
Oh I like the finished piece! (Of course any piece done with Jojo’s snoopervision would have to turn out well!)
That’s so pretty, Kym! I love that it was a launching pad for doin’ it your way!! (My mother didn’t do much embroidery but she always told me what HER mother said about being as neat on the back as on the front!)
what a lovely piece, Kym! I missed the Purl Soho part of the project the first time – they do find really nice patterns, and they package everything beautifully. They should feature your gallery (and that backside!) on the pattern!
What a sweet little piece of embroidery. I think there is something about warmer weather that lends itself to smaller pieces of stitching. Your color choices make the stitches sing. And I’m glad that JoJo is your faithful companion and approves of your work.
Just beautiful Kym. I was thinking a lovely front to a new pair of overalls?
Your project is lovey, and your workmanship is enviable! Maybe one of your kids could use a pillow or wall hanging?
