Here I am . . .
lookin’ for fun and feelin’ groovy!
This is an entertaining little knit, for sure. A little trickier in parts than I had expected, but not a big deal. The neon yarn, for example, is quite fuzzy, which makes crisp colorwork nearly impossible. And each flower “motif” includes several rows that require 3 colors, which makes it hard to find a good rhythm. And there are some really, really long floats.* I’m doing a pretty good job at “catching” those floats in the back, but frequently, those super long floats come in the same rows as the 3 color knitting and . . . well . . . there’s just a lot going on back there, y’know?
It’s really charming, though. And super squishy. And endlessly entertaining, too.
Really . . . it’s downright groovy!

How about you? What are you making this week?

*(Don’t worry about those floats. This cowl . . . has a lining.)
I can’t think of a better song to have stuck in my head! Love that one…thanks ♥
And a super-fun project on your needles. At first glance, I thought–Wait, wasn’t that yarn for a cowl? (Because I thought you’d made a hat! Hm…that motif WOULD make a cute hat, too!)
I hope you’ll share when you get to the liner. I’ve never lined a cowl–though I thought about it. I had a few babies at the time and not enough experience, so I just ripped out the wool and made legwarmers. (Why would I think my legs wouldn’t itch? Probably wore them over leggings. Who knows.) Anyway–admiring that colorwork over here!
That just looks delightfully fun! (and isn’t it lined? I am not sure I’d fiddle with catching floats…plus the nature of mohair is to be “sticky”)
I love the colors and the blurred effect that the mohair has! It will be a lovely, bright, cozy neck warmer! XO
That is just so pretty and…yes…groovy! Reminds me of the late 60’s. I like the fuzziness of it – and I definitely wouldn’t worry about the floats if it will be lined. It would look wonderful with my black winter coat!! LOL
I like that fuzzy colorwork and am looking forward to seeing the lining. Those are definitely 60s colors (and would have matched my first pair of bell bottoms perfectly)!
Entertaining, huh? I would be having a stroke:). My skills are far behind yours. For me, the clever ribbing in one of those Anker patterns that PetiteKnits has been churning out is entertaining enough for me. Nevertheless I wonder if now that you have dipped your toe into three color knitting, would you be likely one day to try a Bohus headband? (I am such a troublemaker.) In the meantime, though, you can rest on your laurels, Kym! That hat is “da bomb”. (In quotations because my daughter would wince at the outdatedness of the expression.) Wear it with a smile on your face! Chloe
Well now I have my earworm for the day! I think it looks amazing, and I don’t mind the fuzziness of the colorwork at all — with that yarn, it’s a feature, not a bug. Are you familiar with the ladderback jacquard method of dealing with long floats? I know the length isn’t an issue because of the lining, but those long floats can be an issue when you’re trying to keep your tension even.
It must be fuzzy yarn week in the yarniverse, because I’m working on my Love Note and regularly finding myself covered in neon green mohair fuzz!
I love it! You’ve chosen perfect yarns to go together.
I added a bit to my first comment not realizing it had already gone through. Apparently you can defy the blogging parameters!. Chloe
Oh, wow, that’s just delightful, Kym!! What kind of lining will that cowl have? I worry more about long floats where small appendages are involved — mittens, gloves, and sleeves!
Those colors are great and really have that 60s groovy vibe. The colors remind me of a pair of bell bottoms that I embroidered with flowers and peace symbols…wish I still had them!
It’s adorable-so bright and cheery. I thought for a moment it was a hat with three pom poms and how cute would that be?
So fun!
I think the halo really adds to the cuteness.
That cowl is so you, I love the neon colors and the groovy flowers, too. It looks like you’re almost done, non?
Best welcome to almost spring ever! Cold day? That hat! Wind in late April…that hat! I see so much joy coming from that knit. Eagerly awaiting a modeled shot and a peak at the lining!!
What a beautiful cowl – very groovy. It has that vibe to it. Enjoy your knitting. Awhile back I bookmarked a great video tutorial about catching floats on the MDK website. You are so experienced, it might not be new to you but I plan to try some colorwork mittens soon and use the technique. It is so much easier than my self-taught method.
ooohhh … it’s coming along beautifully! I’m also a big fan of colorwork with fuzzy yarn – love the halo!
