Welcome . . . to another Friday in the Sanctuary.
May you find a few moments of peace and respite here today. Life is tough. We all need to protect our peace.
C'mon in.
Take a break with me.
First, let me explain where I am . . . right now.
For the last bit of time, I've become increasingly concerned with my waning ability to focus. My mind seems always ready to . . . jump. To the next topic. To look something up. To follow up on some random notion I just had. To entertaining an ever-increasing number of random notions. A lot more daydreaming. A lot more pondering . . . but nothing of real interest.
Now, I've always been a daydreamer. (As a kid in school, I rarely got in trouble for anything . . . but if I did get into trouble, it was because I was daydreaming. Again.) But these days . . . I might fall into a wondering-dream-state with very little provocation or even real inspiration.
I'm sure this lack of focus contributes to my personal productivity levels and tendency to procrastinate, as well as to my occasionally fragmented sleep pattern . . . so I've been working to build some new habits for myself while also shedding some of my old habits. And it's working! I am beginning to feel a difference in how I move through my days.
Which leads me to my Friday Sanctuary posts. I'm still going to be doing them . . . but they will be more focused and less scattered.
My aim here with Sanctuary is . . . to protect our peace . . . by protecting our focus.
This week, I just have one thing to share with you: magical puppets!
Last week, these magical horses appeared in my Instagram feed . . .
These incredible puppets come from puppeteer Andrew Kim and his partner, actor and musician Kathy Kim. Together, they are the artists behind Thingumajig Theatre. Here's a little blurb from their website that explains what they DO . . .
Thingumajig Theatre creates and performs innovative puppet plays and interactive giant puppet street acts. Based in West Yorkshire, their puppets have played throughout the UK and 17 other countries and have been seen on television and a major Disney film.
If you'd like to fall down a GOOD rabbit-hole for a little "peace break," just check out Thingumajig Theatre's website . . . and then click on the Performances tab . . . to see some of their magical and absolutely gorgeous puppets.
It's a good diversion . . . even if you're trying hard to stay focused!
And that'll do it for this week, my friends.
I hope you've found some . . . Sanctuary. . . here today.
At least for a few minutes.
Enjoy your weekend.
Focus on the good things around you.
And go ahead and daydream a little.
(But not all day.)
Protect your peace!
Garden Buddha is offering such a peaceful welcome for the weekend! (I thought of him a bit last Friday as I wandered the Japenese Gardens.)
I think the nature of our world makes it harder to focus in general because it’s no longer rewarded and because we have so much more to think/worry about, so know that you aren’t alone in your struggle or your frustration with it. I’m constantly battling the competing desires to know what’s going on in the world and to not want to know — maybe that’s why I’m running so much more? In any case, I hope you can find some calm and some focus and of course plenty of peace.
Those puppets! Amazing! And fun!
Happy Weekend Kym.
Here’s to better focus, on things that matter, one at a time. I certainly feel more scattered but will need to concentrate on one task at a time. I used to nag my kids to do their homework without music, snapchat, and 16 tabs open on their laptops but I need to take my own advice.
