It’s always an exciting day . . . when Bonny and Carole and I announce the upcoming Read With Us selection.
This spring, we invite you to join us in reading . . .
Nesting by Roisín O’Donnell.
Included on the 2025 Women’s Prize for Fiction longlist, Nesting is the first novel for Irish short-story writer Roisín O’Donnell. Promotional information from the publisher describes the novel as “a beautiful, urgent, and ultimately uplifting novel by a rising Irish literary star” and claims Nesting to be “a heart-pounding, life-affirming story about one woman trying to leave her marriage and start over.” Friends who have already read the book (I have not yet) tell me it is absolutely compelling – reading more like suspense than literary domestic fiction – and that it’s a book worthy of its praise.
Reviews recommend Nesting for fans of Claire Keegan and Louise Kennedy (author of Trespasses, a previous Read With Us selection), and agree that Roisín O’Donnell’s extraordinary debut creates a devastating and suspenseful portrait of gaslighting and emotional abuse—and a triumphant story about family, love, and finding a new place to nest.
“Nesting, Roisín O’Donnell’s gripping debut novel, contains all the twists and turns of a classic thriller… tense and propulsive from the very beginning… immersive and emotional… Like every worthy thriller, Nesting keeps the reader guessing until the end. It is rare and refreshing to read a satisfyingly suspenseful novel that exists in such a domestic sphere.”— New York Times Book Review
Bonny and Carole and I will be talking more about the book and providing additional background information for you in blog posts over the next several weeks. Then . . . mark your calendars for our blog book discussions/Zoom discussion on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 (7:00 pm Eastern time).
