Behold! Progress!
As you can see in the photo above, I am cranking here . . . on the second woolly man-sweater sleeve. There is not much to see here, really. Except inches of sleeve. With more inches to go. But I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel here, and I have every confidence that Tom will be able to wear a new fishing sweater this fall.
So that’s the progress part of this post.
The reminder is this . . .
We’re two weeks out from our Read With Us discussion of The Friend, which is scheduled for Tuesday, September 16. As always, we’ll be discussing the book here on our blogs that day, and then hosting a Zoom book club meeting at 7:00 pm (Eastern time) that night.
The book is short, and a relatively quick read, so even if you haven’t had a chance to pick it up yet . . . you still have plenty of time. And . . . this season’s RWU book selection also has a twist . . . a movie twist! You can watch the movie version of The Friend starring Naomi Watts, Bill Murray, and a charming Great Dane . . . which is available to stream (it does still require a rental fee to stream; sorry). So this time around, you can just read the book OR just watch the movie OR . . . both.
EDITED 09.4.25 TO ADD: Just heard that The Friend (movie version) is available to stream FOR FREE on Paramount+ and Hulu. (Thanks, Kat!)
If you’d like to join us for the Zoom, please RSVP by September 15 to Bonny, Carole, or me. (There’s even a reservation link in the sidebar here on my blog . . . just to make it easy.) We hope you’ll Read With Us (or watch with us!) . . . and then join us for the discussion on the 16th.
Those sleeves are looking good; congratulations on your progress! I do think you’re brave to knit with wine. That’s never been a good combination for me, but maybe it’s necessary with miles of gray stockinette. I still have to watch the movie, but I’ll need to pick a night when I won’t fall asleep while watching.
I’ll have to rsvp when I’m at “my” computer. And though I have the 16th on my calendar, I’d been thinking I have to read the book by NEXT Tuesday. I’m relieved. I had thought I might depend on having read this book a while ago, but watching the movie made me want to check a few things.
I set aside Chuck’s sweater last week to knit a baby sweater. Honestly so much more fun.
You are moving quickly on that sweater and inspiring me to get cranking on Dale’s!
I am always surprised at just how much knitting a sleeve entails … especially a man-sized one! Yay for all that progress!!
Great progress on the Fishing Sweater! As always, I’m looking forward to our discussion with our RWU group. I’ve both read the book and watched the movie.
Nice work! I have a body and sleeves I’d like to finish by October 1 but I think I’m dreaming. Can you sign me up for the 15th? 🙂
A heads up on the movie… I watched it yesterday FOR FREE on Paramount+ (and it is also available on Hulu, I think) so if anyone has not watched it yet… you are in luck! And yes, please sign me up!!
As for your trek on sleeve island… those sleeves are things of beauty!!
Look at you go on that sleeve! Thanks for the reminder — I did read the book but need to watch the movie, and I’m excited to hear that there’s a free streaming option!
Turns out to watch it on Hulu, you have to have Paramount+. Oh well!
Loved the movie! Don’t you have to pay for Paramount+? I thought just plain Paramount was free. Gorgeous sweater!
I read the book and watched the movie and can hardly wait until the 16th for our discussion!
Hooray for progress on the wooly gray sweater. I’m sure your husband is looking forward to wearing it this Fall. Truly, a man’s sweater is a labor of love.
