As you can see, I am knitting a sock.
As you may also see . . . the loose yarn there looks to have been . . . unravelled.
Because it has been.
Twice.
Now . . . I’ve been knitting since I was 8 (with a crochet-all-the-things break in high school/college, and then several years of zero knitting when I had young children). (Although there was a brief attempt at knitting-with-young-children that ended when little Erin stuck one of my knitting needles up her nose). (She was fine, by the way.)
Anyway. I’ve been knitting for a long time. And I’ve knit a lot of socks (although none lately). Many. Pairs. Of. Socks. In fact, I consider turning-the-heel to be one of the most magical things in all of knitting.
And yet . . .
I continue to learn that it is (ahem) . . . unwise to . . .
turn said heel. . .
with skinny, slippery yarn (with nubby-bits, mind you). . .
on skinny, slippery needles. . .
after a glass of wine. . .
while watching the totally captivating House of Guinness on Netflix.
Some people never learn.

How about you? What are you making this week?
(And a quick PS . . . I’m back to the sock because, as you may have surmised, I finished my test knit sweater. So stay tuned. When Elizabeth releases her new design – a week from this Friday, I believe – I will share my finished sweater here.)
I usually knit while watching tv (but never after a glass of wine)! I’m often amazed at how many details I’ve missed in the tv show because I’m really just listening while I pay more attention to my knitting.
I can only knit while not looking in the round stockinette. I have never developed the muscle memory required to knit something more complex while watching TV. Kudos to all of you who can. And I would definitely have to look after drinking wine.
House of Guinness is just too good to be distracted by anything! I have knit maybe a couple of hundred (maybe more?) socks and I still mess up the heel once in awhile. We are knitters. We are not perfect. But we have clothed ourselves in nice warm clothing throughout the years! 😀
Still booping around on a sweater. Love the sock yarn and totally agree on the turn of a heel!
I’m looking forward to House of Guiness!
House of Guinness was GREAT!! Loved the music, too.
We are LOVING House of Guinness! and I am knitting a very simple lace wrap on size 9 needles while I watch (I’ve been working with the pattern for a few weeks now and it is finally rhythmic enough for me to knit and watch).
I have learned the hard way that anything involving counting cannot be done while 1) tired, 2) intoxicated, or 3) watching something very engaging. I’m sorry you’ve had to rip out twice. I hope third time’s the charm!
