The little sweater . . . is coming together nicely. But it’s all in pieces for now. (It’s so nice to be able to finally show off the colors in natural light.)
I’m still . . . considering my choices . . . when it comes to the color blocking. If you remember an earlier post about my color blocking options, you might recall that I had chosen to do exactly what I’m in the midst of doing . . . almost. I had wanted to have the sleeve-attached-to-the-striped front . . . pink. But once I got to the knitting, I could see my error.
Because the back is solid pink. And a solid pink sleeve would be . . . really dull from the back. So I scrapped that idea and went with the blue shade (following the pattern photo).
And it will be very cute, I’m sure. But I really did want it to be a bit . . . jazzier . . . from the front.
So. The other sleeve (the one that attaches to the blue side of the sweater front) will be yellow/white stripes, just like the sweater front. What I’d really like to do, though . . . is to substitute that solid blue sleeve with a sleeve done up in mini-stripes incorporating all four colors of the sweater. But I think that might be TOO busy. The considering continues.
Sigh.
Since the time I took these photos (Monday afternoon), I’ve finished the blue sleeve and I’m at the half-way point with the yellow/white striped sleeve. I’m thinking . . . that I’ll go ahead and try a mini-striped sleeve, too. (Yep, three sleeves.) Just to see how it looks. And then I’ll decide. (The sleeves knit up very quickly, and I have plenty of yarn.)
(This is one of the benefits of knitting a sweater . . . in pieces.)
Sometimes, even with all the planning and scheming in the world, you still need to see how it looks in Real Time/Real Life to make a final decision. So stay tuned!
And in other news . . . someone gets her stitches out today! Which doesn’t mean an end to the sleeve, of course. Because that same someone is notorious for “getting at” itchy spots and wounds, so she’ll likely still need distraction and “minding” until her hair/fur grows back in. But she will be able to get her arm wet again, which will put trips up north back in play. So progress all around!

And how about you?
What are you making these days?
My experience when considering is to wait a few days for another look when I am not being so close to the process and you can get a more objective viewpoint. I hated sewing in sleeves as a sewist and feel exactly the same as a knitter. (Luckily I look best in a raglan.) More power to you! (P.S. The autofill wanted to substitute “sexist” for “sewist”. Luckily I usually proofread!)
I bet the baby will look adorable in the sweater no matter what colors you end up with for the sleeve. Pieces are good for a baby sweater but all I can see are the seams that need to be sewn and ends woven in. I’m glad for JoJo that she can get her arm wet and glad for you that you can head Up North!
It will come to you as you play with it. I think all iterations you discussed will be very cute and very much appreciated, although I had the same thought about the striped sleeve. Hooray for JoJo! She can get back to living her best life!
Yay JoJo!!
I’m so glad you’re going to knit that super-stripey sleeve — I wanna see it, too!!
I’m glad you’re knitting the extra sleeve because selfishly, I’m curious — It will be adorable, regardless. And JoJo, leave those scars alone!
The good thing about trying things out in a baby sweater is that even if you knit a piece and end up not liking it, you really haven’t invested too much time. I’m sure you’ll figure out something that’s adorable and fun — it already is. And yay for JoJo getting her stitches out! I hope her healing continues to go well.
Best progress for Jo-Jo. Awesome. And great progress on the little sweater. It is already adorable and I think the really stripey third sleeve will be so fun!!
Good plan on the sleeves but that’s some fortitude to knit THREE! Hooray for JoJo and forward progress AND heading Up North, too!
Love the little sweater! I’m a sucker for the varied colors for littles and big people. What about a pink and yellow stripe or blue/yellow or blue/pink…. Not that you should knit 5 or more sleaves! I’m sure it will be adorable wherever you land.
