I’m sure you don’t remember this . . . but last year, I was disappointed in my front porch container plantings. My pots were old and lackluster (and a couple were cracked). I had tried something new – planting perennials in the containers – and they didn’t perform as well or bloom for as long as I had hoped. Plus, there was a nasty old coiled hose that I fought with every damn day when it came to watering.
As part of my end-of-year garden assessment, I vowed to get new containers AND a new hose for my front porch.
And so I did.
The new hose? It’s nothing special. But it’s short, it doesn’t get tangled up, and it gets the job done quickly and easily. The containers, though? Ahhhhh! They are lovely, but subtle. Just what I wanted. And they provide a perfect backdrop for bright, sizzling colors and a little bit of porch pizzazz. They’re just getting started. It’s been very chilly here, so the plants have been just biding their time . . . But there’s a heat wave on the way, so . . .
Watch this space!
I think these containers might be magnificent in a couple of weeks.
==========
Have a great weekend, everyone.
Make space for a little pizzazz in your garden or patio or porch.
(And don’t forget to play the Summer Vibes Scavenger Hunt!)
Your containers (and the plants you’ve put in them) look magnificent now. I always admire the planters featured in the White Flower Farm catalog and yours look better than theirs!
That’s a good way to look at the glass half-full — heatwave’ll make the plants grow happy!
They look great — and I love the pairing with that really fabulous doormat. How does that NOT make someone smile??
Happy weekend to you and yours.
Oooh. They look wonderful! I love that tall planter!! Can’t wait to see the difference in a few weeks. We just had a couple days of hot/humid & I’m happy to have a little relief today before the heat cranks up again next week.
Your front door looks so welcoming with all that color and texture! Marc started our pots back in April and they are vibrant right now … we’ll see how long they stay that way with full afternoon summer sun!
Great choices on the containers!
Those are really beautiful combinations of plants you’ve put together! I love creeping jenny in a container. We can’t buy it here anymore, though. I also REALLY LOVE your door mat!
Life is too short to spend time fighting with a hose. The planters look good so far and I’m sure will look spectacular once they get enough sun and warmth to perk them up and encourage them!
Our deck is blooming! We’ve been having so much fun making it into a mini garden center. (Truth: Amy does most of the work and it’s due to her I haven’t killed anything yet. I’m a helluva bushwacker, though, and boy is our yard benefiting from that labor.) But oh how I love sitting with my morning tea and enjoying the silence, the flowers and the birds.
Hoses are a mixed blessing. We need them but they sure can be a pain in the neck. The new containers, with your touch, already look pretty. I had pansies on my front porch (north side full shade all day) and now they are full of little mites so I have to ditch them, scrub the pots and decide whether or not to try something else.
What a welcoming space, Kym. The pots are just stunning (even not “going”) and I love that short, handy little hose! Genius! The heat is ON here this week… and my second wave of allium look ready to burst this week!
They already look great!
I long for the day when we get things fixed so that we can have a hose outside again. Lugging huge watering cans in and out of the kitchen to water the plants and our new tree is annoying.
The container and the plants inside are a perfect compliment to your door and house color! You really knocked it out of the park with your choices of colors on both fronts!
