I’ve got a tale of two . . . “knitties” . . . for you.
As in . . it was the best of times; it was the worst of times.
Shall we begin with the worst?
Looks okay from this angle, doesn’t it? Cruising right along. In the easy, just-keep-knitting phase of a cardigan. Y’know?
Let’s take a closer look.
Quelle horreur!
Taking photos outside . . . in pretty good light . . . reveals a Major Problem I hadn’t seen inside: The. Yarn. Does. Not. Match.
Big. Frickin’. Stripe.
Sure. I could live with it.
But I can’t.
At all, really.
Or I could . . . rip back (or start over) and fade that yarn into the mix.
But I don’t want to.
This pattern is tedious enough to knit that I don’t want to mess with alternating skeins throughout.
So. I’ll be ripping this one.
(Worst of times, indeed.)
As for the best of times? Luckily, I’ve got this . . .
The beginnings of a sweet baby sweater . . . for a family baby (a nephew’s third) due in late July/early August. (It’s this pattern in this yarn).
I’m hoping this one brings me the happy ending I need!
=====
How about you? What are you working on this week?
Well, crap! That is (was) a lovely sweater in a beautiful color until the BFS. I couldn’t live with it either, so have fun ripping. But the baby sweater is a winner, so maybe that helps. (Not really, but we can say it does!)
Well crappity crap! I am in knitting limbo with a sweater in a cotton linen blend that is moving along but not holding my attention. My hearts wants to cast on some color work.
Oh ugh… that yarn… booooooo hoooooo! (good think you have such a cute baby knit to assuage the pain of that sweater!)
Well, phooey. I’ve been admiring that sweater from when you cast on. That really stinks. The baby sweater, however, is lovely.
I too am ripping this week. I have a sweater (Tauriel) I knit in 2015 that no longer fits my daughter, nor is it a style she prefers now that she’s in the PNW. I picked it up when I visited her two weeks ago (what a beautiful respite from the heat here!) and am frogging away. I’m up to ~861 yards recovered, with about 1/4 of the sweater left to pull out. She admired the Cirrus ( https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cirrus-10 ) I was wearing out there so I will re-knit the yarn into one for her!
Baby knitting is always a balm for knitting aggravation!
Ooof. So sorry about that. I’d tell myself I’d try to live with it but then I’d never wear it.
For what it’s worth, I have to look pretty hard to see the stripe, but you have to be the judge, and if you’re not happy with it now, it’s going to bug you forever. The baby sweater is adorable, though!
Ugh!! Will you be able to use that yarn in another way/project? That’s a super-cute baby sweater!!
Like Sarah, I did not see the stripe immediately…but I know I could not live with it either. What a disappointment! That is a darling baby sweater pattern and it should be fast knitting as well!
Oh man, I’m so sorry about that sweater as I was really loving the pattern. I hope you’ll go back to it some day with a different yarn. The baby sweater is very sweet and you are good to be knitting it for this new family member.
I had that mismatch one time. It was with no dye lot acrylic. You would think white would be WHITE. It was not and I did not notice until I was all done knitting a king size blanket. One of the middle skeins did not match all the others.
At least you weren’t too far gone when you noticed.
well that’s a darn it – and I’m glad you have one happy project! I’m knitting away on a white summer cardigan and planning some hand-stitching to finish up my quilt.
I was deep in your cardi-woes—until I followed your link to that baby sweater pattern and got lost in all of my “Awww”-ing!!
But back to the cardigan—I couldn’t actually see the striping in my bright kitchen light but can see it better in indirect light….i wouldn’t be able to ‘go with it,’ either. Good thing you didn’t get any farther (though it must have felt like a lot to rip out:( ).
Gosh darn it, that stripe defies any fixes I can think of to disguise it. But the baby sweater,..Yum. Reminds me a lot of Stephen West’s Daybreak, one of my first “bought” patterns. At least at this stage. I’ll go over and take a look after I hit Send here. Quite a Consolation Prize.
Oh rats. That cardigan was going to be so pretty. I wouldn’t like the stripe either. Here’s hoping the baby sweater turns out as sweet as it looks right now.
Ugh 😩. I’m knitting that sweater as I liked it when you first put it out there. Sooo sorry to see this. (Happened with a poncho I knit…discovered when finished…urggghhhh.)
