Baby Sweater (Yep. Another One.)
Pattern: Gingersnap (available free on Ravelry, but only in size 12 mos.)
Designer: Kristen Rettig
Yarn: Berroco Vintage, which is a worsted weight yarn. A mix of wool/acrylic/nylon, Vintage is machine washable (lay flat to dry) — with a reasonable price point, so it’s great to use for a baby sweater. 218 yards/skein. Colors used: Neptune 5197, Citrus 51131, Cerise 51138, and Mochi 5101 (that’s the white . . . )
Needles: Size 5 and 7
Finished: August 2025
Made for: Clarke
Size: 12 months
Details and notes: This is a sweet little baby sweater that was a lot of fun to knit – and plan. The pattern is free — and the instructions are good (which is not always the case with freebies). The yarn is really perfect for a baby sweater — warm, soft, machine washable, and it looks like it will wear well. I used far less than one skein of each color for the sweater. There is plenty of yarn left over for another sweater in the same colors — or for accessories. The yarn is easy to work with and washed/blocked nicely. The sweater is knit in color blocked pieces and then stitched together using mattress stitch.
It’s a really cute pattern; I love the way it turned out.
(I also made the collage gift tag with relevant information/care instructions to include with the sweater.)
Oh, yeah. I did think a lot about making one of the sleeves in a mini-stripe pattern. I gave it a try, but it did not work out. At all. (As you can see in the photo gallery, below.)
