Although I have offered musical interludes on the two previous Cup o’ Kindness Saturdays, today it’s time for something different today . . . a contemplative interlude!
Tonight is the longest night of the year – the winter solstice – which is a transition point of sorts. A shift. A reminder that change is always happening, always evolving. It’s dark now, yes. But the light is returning.
As a way to honor the solstice, try to find a quiet spot for yourself today . . . with some gentle light. Maybe a candle; maybe some twinkle lights; maybe the stars. And consider these questions . . .
- How do I find my way in the darkness?
- What kind of light attracts me; what kind of light do I find myself moving toward?
- What kinds of light do I tend; are there lights that I want to maintain through the darkness?
- How do I reflect light to others?
- How might I share my light in the world?
Happy solstice, friends!
Be the light.
“Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.”
– Desmond Tutu
Come.
Fill your cup.
Thank you for these prompts. I have written them down and will contemplate them today. My favorite spot of light thus far today… a vibrant orange sunrise that was framed by violet grey clouds… it was so vibrant the entire western sky was awash in pink. Even on the darkest day, Nature shines! Happy Solstice.
We had snow yesterday and last night so our Solstice sky is bright blue and sunny. But my MiL used to complain that she didn’t go out much in the winter because it was always dark or there was weather, and sometimes both. Wishing you a contemplative and peaceful Winter Solstice.
Happy Solstice, Kym. The solstice has always been a time of rejoicing for me. I can hardly wait for the return of the light, day by day. Your posts bring a lot of light, you know!
Today I dance through the longest night (mentally, anyway)! It’s a joyous day even though January looms. I shall think about that tomorrow. Happy Solstice, Kym!!
I need the return of the light, both literally and metaphorically, so while I always look forward to this day, it feels more important than ever right now.
We walked to the lake this morning to see the sun come up … at 7:39 AM; I’m so ready to welcome the light! Happy Solstice!
The best Solstice to you. There is a beauty in the darkness as well as in the increasing light. I’m about to light a candle in honor of this day. Here’s to you my friend.
